Lets practice our reading and understanding skills - Worksheet for little ones or English second language learners
It is very important that we practice our reading every day. The more we practice, the more fluent we will read.
The better you can read, the more things you will be able to do and the easier it will be to do your school work and to study for a test.
It is not only enough that we can read, we also need to understand what we are reading. There is no use if you can read but you do not understand.
We are going to do a few exercises to practice our reading and understanding.
- Watch the video and follow where they are reading.
- Now watch the video again, but without the sound and read out loud by yourself. If they are going to fast with the words, pause the video until you are done reading, then play it again.
- Read the questions, make sure you understand what they ask and then answer it in your own words in full sentences.
- Write down your answer and check your spelling.
- Choose any 10 words from the story and use them in your own sentence.
Now answer the questions:
- Is Shringeri a man or a women?
- Was he having a bad or a good day?
- Why was he having a bad day?
- What was he growing on his farm?
- Who did not want the bananas?
- Why did not they not want to eat any more bananas?
- Where did he go for help?
- Did Shringeri any bananas to someone when he came back?
- Why were the people becoming curious?
- How many bananas did they have to get for the offering?
- Did Shringeri take bananas to the offering? What was in his bag?
- How was the packets actually 108 bananas?
- Were the town happy that they now knew what Shringeri did with the bananas? How do you know that?

Wonderful resources for teachers here, @anneke! Thank you for doing this. I have done several types of reading with students over many years of teaching. Perhaps I should write something about it soon. Thanks again!
What an awesome and creative exercise!
Very good strategy that you presented here. This is something that I am going to try soon. I have practiced many strategies but I really like trying new things. It is so important for all children to read. Thank you for sharing.
