Sort Tags by Average Payout per Post: Tool and Guide

in #steemiteducation7 years ago (edited)

So this issue has been on my mind for a while: Everyone knows (or should know) that correct tagging is important and can highly influence the exposure a post gets on steemit. If you wish to read more on this topic, you can start here or here, or search steemit as there are lots of guides on the topic. When examining the complete tags list, I noticed that for each tag post count and payouts data is available, but if you want to calculate the Average Payout Per Post (henceforth APPP) you have to do it yourself. I wanted to consult this kind of sorted tags list by APPP when posting, to choose wisely the 5 tags most proper so as to get better exposure and maximize the payout potential.

So I've built a google sheet that does it almost automatically (I don't know how to get the data automatically from the steem blockchain or from the steemit interface), and it is open for everybody to use. This is the guide for the APPP tool, containing 3 easy steps:

1 . Go to the tags page. Click somewhere in the page (not on a link). Press CTRL+A. Press CTRL+C. Tags data table is now copied to your clipboard.

2 . Go to my Google sheet. Make sure you've landed in the first sheet, which is named "input data" (see image below, that's where you're supposed to land). Select cell A2 (see image below) and press CTRL+V. You have pasted the updated data into the sheet.

3 . Switch to the second sheet, named "Tags sorted by payouts/post". That's it! You are looking at a list of all the tags, sorted in descending order by their APPP. All that is left for you to do is to create great content and tag it correctly and wisely while consulting the APPP tool!

If someone more capable would like to create a fully automated tool that does this, I think this would be great. I know for myself I would rather be using a fully automated tool than having to paste the data manually myself every time I post. If you create this kind of automated tool, or are aware of its existence, please do let me know in the comments section below. Also, if you have any proposals, remarks or advice, I would love to hear from you. If something isn't working properly for you (hopefully this won't happen) please let me know also, but so far it worked well for me and for a few more members of the Israeli steemit community.

Spread the word, share the love, play the music. 🐰❤🎵

I m wondering why nobody is saying something about this great idea.
Good job dude, works flawless.

I tried the same with a local Excel and import via Web Data. Worked too =)

Thanks, wasn't aware of the import via web function, and also wanted to create an online tool that would be accessible for all, so Google sheets was a natural choice. I did try at first locally with Excel, but copied the data manually. I now tried the import via web, and it works - but seems to be similar to manual copying – the data doesn't update automatically and you have to re-import it every time you want an up to date calculation.

Yeah, furthermore for an none american you have to change the SBD and , . stuff :/
