The experience offered by the cultivation work is rewarding, since it puts into practice skills and habits of care and responsibility. Cultivation is a beneficial activity for children, in which they learn the life cycles of plants, in addition to instructing them in healthy eating habits.

The importance of cultivating in schools is for students to know all parts of plants, vital functions such as reproduction, their different structures, such as: flowers, fruits and seeds; At the same time, to have contact with nature and to value what is cultivated in it.

Aspects to consider to cultivate in school.

Must have adequate space for planting, seeds or plants.

Fertilizers are necessary to ensure the growth of plants, and to protect crops against pests, the germination of onions and garlic plantations can be prepared to combat them.

The teacher should explain to students the importance of cleaning the land for this activity, letting them know that it is necessary to remove weeds, stones or debris from the site.

After the work of sowing, it proceeds to water with abundant water, but without exceeding, so that the processes of germination and development of the plants are successful.

Care of the crop

Planting is a responsibility, and this is what we should foster in children, responsibility and learning at the same time.

This can be done by placing: a recycling wood and marking its contour per week, you must compare the ascending or descending variations of the growth, and thus you will have a record of the process.

  • Irrigation is essential, but must be done in the form of rain to prevent the plants from drying out or drowning.
  • It can be watered every day.
  • The elimination of weeds, at least once a week.

Advantages when cultivating at school.

  • Children create responsibility.
  • Encourages children to have a healthy diet.
  • The students work in a natural space.
  • Conservation and nature care values are incorporated.
  • Children learn a trade that can be useful for a future.

The creation of an orchard is beneficial in the school, since the plantation can be used in the dining room and if there is no dining room, it can be used to sell the products to the community and thus increase the funds for a project.

Excellent work. I am a retired teacher in the area of education for work. I worked with school garden projects. It was one of the activities that I enjoyed the most. I myself learned many things and my students know that they took a lifelong learning. Thanks for sharing.

Undoubtedly, learning is as much for educators as it is for students. I am from a town where cultivation is their main source of income, even my grandparents are sowers.

perfect. Successes!

I love the idea of growing plants with students at school. It's important to show kids where their food comes from and the work it takes to grow it. Where I live schools really don't do this with students which is sad. We don't have school in the summer during growing season so I guess growing plants would be hard in the cooler months when school is in session. As a parent I'll make sure to garden with my daughter which will be fun for me because I love gardening.

This is a great activity for school kids. I had a grade 2 class once and we planted a garden out around the school. It was such a rewarding and educational activity for them.
