We can take a moment in today's celebration for fathers across the world to analyze this role that is so important in the lives of children. And it is a good idea to go deep into the subject a little bit and observe some points.

Many have different views about fatherhood. And all depends on our own experiences that shape us. And I would like to point out some facts based on, naturally, my own opinion.

Guidance

Any child always needs the protection of his/her father. He should be around to correct some behaviors. But also he needs to give his children some space. Kids should discover their world themselves.

Mothers are commonly more resilient to do this. They always see their children as little ones no matter how old they are. Let's call it "the mother thing."

But fathers, as I've said, are inclined to loose the cord. And when they do, I consider that observation is very important. I mean, when a child starts developing some interests, they will need the proper guidance, and not to interfere but to support and help.

There are some people that say that too much guidance bring controlling. And that's true. Fathers need to know there's a limit which they should not cross... because If they do, they will end up imposing their will.

Example

There's no better way to guide and lead by giving practical examples. Fathers should stand true to their morals and belief. Children might develop and hold other morals, but seeing their own fathers honoring their "code," they learn important things like responsibility.

Boys specially look constantly at their father. It's their closest role model. No school or friend will have the most immediate impact on their lives. They can even shape their own personality on what they grasp from him.

Girls, though not in the degree of boys, also look at their father. And even though as they grow up, mothers take on important things relating to womanhood, fathers are the closest man-figure. And girls also learn a lot from father, specially when they work hard to provide the best for their daughters.

Skills

Father must always aim to develop their kids' abilities. From an early age, they have to observe very carefully when their children start showing any signs of ability in some capacity.

They also need to explain how important it is to train those abilities we were blessed to. No matter if they don't end up using them, children must understand the importance of exploiting their own potential.

These are some things that fathers should exhibit. Of course, there are other things because we never end learning being a parent. It's a constant process of learning.
