Focus Determines Everything

Many of us posses abilities that place us above others in specific fields. However, it doesn't mean that others cannot come up showing fewer skills and still top us.

How many times have we seen anyone with great potential having not great result in whatever enterprise he or she ventures? I think it's more than usual nowadays. I've observed carefully and noticed one common factor. And that is FOCUS.

The lack of focus is recurrent nowadays. Youngsters and adults show sign of it in all their endeavors. This also occurs on children as well, which becomes a problem because they might be misunderstood in school.

I'll detail how the lack of focus can affect us all in different ages.

In children

As I implied above, school might think those children who don't do good in class are less talent. But we must look deep to answer the most important question: "why don't they perform well?"

Once we get the "why," we can obtain valuable information that help us not only to motivate students but also to find out what is causing the problem. And in most cases is poor focus.

Just imagine a child falling asleep in the classroom or easily get distracted by sudden events. We tend to demonize him or at least lower him down comparing to others who pay attention and stay concentrated. But perhaps the problem is that the channels to get to this child are different. Not all people react to the same stimulus. We are individuals with custom personalities. And though we can share similar emotions, there are some of us who respond to them differently.

In youngsters

With the many news, gadgets, gossip and whatever new "thing" popping up every day, it is hard to expect a great change from teenagers. Also, the era of getting it all fast without investing time working for what we want, keep youngsters jumping from one thing to another one without focusing on one thing.

This is typically one of the reasons why some youngsters may feel lost at a certain point of their lives. We have to remember how hard that age is. So it is very easy to lose focus.

It is very important - if we are in a position of teaching or guiding - to help them find their "place" so to speak. They need to know what path to take, and then commit to it.

In adults

When we are grown up, we tend to think that everything we are is unchangeable. We think that we already get to a point when nothing else might expect from us. I've seen this behavior to justify not to learn new things. It's just as if we stop to at least trying to get better each passing day.

Many people even mask their mistakes by bringing up the problem of age. But that's just an excuse. On the other hand, we see other people at age of 50, 60 or even 70 who are still proactive and commit themselves to venture into new tasks.

Thus, getting old is not an excuse to drop living. On the contrary, this is the most important time of our lives to keep focus. Since our physical functions might decrease, we need to get our mind constantly working. It's something that can't afford to let by.

With so many distractions in our modern world, it's easier to allow ourselves to get distracted than to focus.

That's right. Though it's good to be aware of what's going on out there - if it's really worth it - we need to commit ourselves to any task or path we have chosen.

I think I need to hear this message at least once every 24 hours... LOL Keeping focus is EVERYthing, as long as your vision and goal and aligned with who you are and where you want and need to be.

We can make adjustments as we go, or even change direction if we truly feel we have made a poor choice. But we need to always carry on no matter how hard it is. If it's in a project or path, we have to show commitment to prove that we really want it.
