IV. Procedure

A. Present a new Concept

A news article “The Fallen 44” together with the information about “Rifleman’s Rule” will be given as an opener of the session.

THE FALLEN 44 and RIFLEMAN’S RULE

MANILA - Filipinos observed on Friday a National Day of Mourning for the "Fallen 44" police commandos who died in an anti-terrorist mission in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on Jan. 25.But a single day is not enough to honor them - as the flood of eulogies, messages of gratitude and love, flowers outside police camps, and Twitter verse exploding with grief and anger, would show. Islands from the country's farthest north to its deepest south was mourning as well, as these gallant members of the PNP Special Action Force are brought home to their final resting places.

Truly, these people who died because of a gunshot though they will be buried in places strewn across the archipelago, the Fallen 44 will also rest in one home: the Filipino heart.

Most of the military men use rifles as their weapon against terrorist. Did you know that they have what they called “Rifleman’s Rule”? Rifleman's rule is a "rule of thumb" that allows a rifleman to accurately fire a rifle that has been calibrated for horizontal targets at uphill or downhill targets. The rule provides an equivalent horizontal range setting for engaging a target at a known elevated distance from the rifle (called the slant range). There is a device that is mounted on the rifle called a sight. While there are many forms of rifle sight, they all permit the rifleman to set the angle between the bore of the rifle and the line of sight (LOS) to the target. Using the rifleman’s rule it will allow military men to accurately hit the target when aiming to an elevated target.

So, if we are going to illustrate then it goes like this,

In mathematics there are also some real life problems aside from using a gun in aiming a target that involve an inclination of angle. So today will do more about the angles of elevation.

B. Form Teams for Study and Practice

Students will be in triad for their study and practice. Handouts will be distributed after they had formed small circles within their group. In the handouts, angle of elevation problem will be introduced, with examples and also practice exercises that will serve as their foundation for the activity.
