Steemitmamas Write Along Day 7: Find a Steemit Witness You Like and Tell Us All About Them

Hello Mamas!

Our write along has included finding a Steemit community you like and writing for them, interacting with fellow mamas on discord through our music bot, and telling us a little about your childhood. Today, our challenge is about becoming more responsible members of the Steemit Community.

We are learning about and creating a list of witnesses we support.

What are Steem witnesses?

According to the Frequently Asked Questions on our site:

The Steem blockchain requires a set of people to create blocks and uses a consensus mechanism called delegated proof of stake, or DPOS. The community elects 'witnesses' to act as the network's block producers and governance body. There are 20 full-time witnesses, producing a block every 63-second round. A 21st position is shared by the backup witnesses, who are scheduled proportionally to the amount of stake-weighted community approval they have. Witnesses are compensated with Steem Power for each block they create.

Our definition for today is a little more simple:

They are the people who keep our blockchain running.

They do get paid in Steem Power for their work. However the pay is only proportional to the work if they have community support.

Each Steemit User is able to Support 30 Witnesses

(You do this by clicking on the "hamburger" to the right of your name and scrolling down to "vote for witnesses.") But what is the point of voting, if we don't know who and what we will be voting for?

We are writers, and sometimes as writers, we must do some research. Today, our challenge is to brush up (or outright learn) all about Steem Witnesses, and write a post. Your post must.

• Explain what a witness does (in your very own easy to understand words) and compel the community to vote for witnesses.

OR

• Tell us all about your favorite witness and why (and how) to vote for them.
