Yep I've always tried to encourage people to go and vote and follow, and I've created the SteemitPhotoChallenge.com which people can use to more easily see the entries live as they come in, that way they don't have to fight through the spam in the tag.
Getting the exposure to my 3000+ followers hopefully has paid off for people who end up in the winners group to get some exposure, additional to the prizes.
Yeah i guess it's like any platform. Generally when i have my images featured very few will click through. Even pages with 100000 followers and i might get 20 new followers myself.

Also how do the prizes work? I'm still trying to wrap my head around the Steemit wallet and what it all means. So excuse me if i'm missing something ;)
Right now the prizes are sent manually from my wallet to the winners in the form of Steem Dollars.
