SteemitPhotoChallenge Entry 1 - Ancient Ruins

This is my first post for a while! I've noticed the photo challenge and thought it prudent to make an entry:

This is a shot taken by a drone of Pevensey Castle located near the south east coast of England. It's estimated to have been built around 290AD so it is about 1700 years old!

There is plenty of history behind this castle which has defend the surrounding flat land over many different battles. I believe it was originally built by the Romans and has never been successfully raided. However, according to plaques on site, the only way the defences have been broken in the past were due to the occupants being starved out.

The castle is fairly close to Hastings and was an important fortification during the 'Battle of Hastings' (French invasion of 1066... a date most people in the UK would have probably heard of).

The castle was even used during World War 2 when gun fortifications were installed to defend against the threat of Germans should they ever have made it across the sea.

I have a couple more photo to share that are more close-up but I will do so in a different post due to this topic being a SteemitPhotoChallenge entry.

As always, I am open to feedback and I am always looking for new places/ideas to venture out with the done. Photo is original taken by myself about a week ago.

Thanks!!

the current theme is 'minimalism' but why not :D

Oh right... didn't realise there was a set theme!! woops :/

Where can I find more information about the steemitphotochallenge?

just check the tag #steemitphotochallenge (preferably the trending view probably), there you should find the theme announcement, but admittedly it's getting harder and harder to find the current one

Thanks for your help hermeister!
