Steemit Sandwich Contest Week #35 (Theme: Ingredient Never used - Greek Yoghurt) - 2nd: Homemade Chicken Doner Kebab Wrap

in #steemitsandwichcontest7 years ago (edited)

I have some leftover greek yoghurt and since I have never used this as an ingredient for any of my sandwiches, thought, I should somehow incorporate it into my 2nd sandwich of the week.

Awhile ago, I read about how greek yoghurt serves as a perfect meat marinading agent as it breaks down the meat and makes it extra tender.

When I think of tender meat, doner kebab or shawarma or gyros came to mind. Therefore, I decided to do something I have never done before... and it is to use greek yoghurt to marinate some chicken breasts and to make Chicken Doner Kabab/Shawarma/Gyros Wrap at home.

I attempted to copy the restaurant, by cooking the meat using a 'home-made' vertical rotisserie. It was made of a wooden stick and secured on an onion and I 'manually' turned it to cook the meat. Please don't laugh, as it works well.

Through this experiment, I discovered that this is also a great party dish, let your guests cut the chicken and serve themselves.

Seriously, this is by far, my favourite sandwich I have ever made for SSC as the meat is soooooo moist and tender.

Sometimes, the best sandwich is NOT necessarily the prettiest, or the most unique, or the most restaurant/professional looking. They can all look great in photos, but at the end of the day, it is the real TASTE that matters!

Having made so many SSC sandwiches, this one tastes the BEST! I feel like I have reached another goal that I have set for myself - and it is to produce a sandwich that I am truly satisfied with! It is for this reason, I declared this my all time best sandwich!

On this note, now that I have made 'the ONE' sandwich I am satisfied with, it is also timely for me to announce that I will be taking a break away from SSC to go on my maternity leave :)

It is very difficult for me to cook in the kitchen with my huge and heavy belly (My husband is 6’4 and our baby boy inherited his father’s gene. Baby is almost 3 weeks bigger and longer than the average), as you can imagine it is extremely difficult for me right now. Just imagine carrying an extra large and long watermelon in front of you 24/7.

Having said that, I will be back to SSC when I am ready in the future. Hope all of you have tons of fun the next few months - I will be busy dealing with smelly diapers, while you guys are enjoying the aroma from cooking in the kitchen. Hahahahaha.

Bye for now!

this sounds so good. I only had my first doner a couple weeks ago and it was absolutely amazing, I wish they were more readily available where I live. I'll have to try making one like you did as it looks like it turned out quite amazing.

Oh my, look at that amazing mouth watering colour of that chicken! Yogurt and kebab, good combination!

I love your vertical rotisserie method. Genius! Such vibrant colors and delicious looking food. The process gif is an amazing addition. Great job.

My God it made my mouth water with this, I imagine eating shawarma in my favorite place and putting a lot of sauce, that meat looks very tender made me very hungry with this I have not tried the Greek yogurt but I could do it, this enchanted me

Ah will miss you @steemit-foodie, hope you pop in from time to time, but enjoy your SSC maternity leave, hope @jaybird pays maternity benefits LOL.
But seriously, take care, rest while you can and most of all enjoy being a Mama xxx
