'Universal Basic Income' - 100 Day Poetry Contest Day 90
Welcome... To a 100 day journey into the poetic minds of the @steemitschool writing community!
Still somehow clinging on. These past few weeks have been a real challenge - keeping up with this until the bitter end, with no real space to retreat to to get the work done, and barely any time to myself.
But, when I can I'm having to do two or more in a day to catch up... but still I will finish this with 100 new pieces, which is the main thing for me... the completion of it all!
I've always been a rule-bender :)
Today's piece was inspired after talking to my Mum... She said to me..
'Ohhh... I do hope that everything you talk about actually happens...'..
I asked her what she meant..
'Well you know, about us making the world a better place'...
I assured her that it would ;)
At some point after I got talking about the idea of a Universal Basic Income, and decided to take that as inspiration.. I'd like to develop this into a performance piece... that's the intuition I got when the idea came through!

Universal Basic Income
If EVERYBODY in the world
lived a life of decency?
Because...
We’re not exactly suffering from a case of insufficiency.
We really do have all we need and more...
Like...
We’re at a place right now where this could actually be made a reality.
Seriously.
Because we spend so much money on things that don’t really matter.
In fact…
It’s not that they don’t even matter...
It’s more that they’re completely dangerous and destructive...
So they kind of matter the most.
How many billions do we spend each year on fighting wars?
An unfathomable sum of money that could be better used to bridge the gap between the rich and poor…
An unimaginable stack of paper that could be used to give each of us just a little more..
Allowing us to purchase keys to otherwise locked and blocked doors.
Granting each one of us a little more freedom to explore.
A little more wind to soar.
It’s not really such a radical shift...
Or a breaking down of the entire financial system...
If we just tweak and twiddle and fiddle around...
Redirect our intentions -
Then solutions will be found.
That money that we waste in fear of terror and defense...
Is putting every one of us in debt,
And It Just Doesn’t Make Much Sense.
SO let’s just say for a moment that we stop spending all of that,
Suddenly we have a few extra billion dollars to spend now...
What on Earth could we do with all that?
Well...
We could divvy it up,
and share it all out...
Ensure there’s not one human,
That will go without.
Provide all with the basics that they need to survive...
Enough money each month so they can keep themselves alive.
This would be minimal.
Just enough to cover their basic needs needs,
And if they want to thrive,
Then they have to strive -
If they want more than that then they’ll have to find some way to contribute...
Think of which of their unique attributes would help them most in their pursuit...
It does compute -
Because currency is just numbers,
Crypto-Electro-Digital conversion.
Analogue Evolves...
And suddenly anyone can program it.
Hundreds of currencies...
A shifting of wealth.
A chance for abundance,
Increasing wellbeing and health.
A Universal Basic Income.
A piece of the pie that gets pissed away every day,
A slice for us all so we can eat well each day,
Take the stress of money away,
And focus all our attention
On how to
Make Tomorrow a Brighter Day.

I am glad I read this today. shared on twitter, hope it reaches the persons who have the power to make a difference. There is no price to hope, so I can dare to hope it will reach.
What you point out here is a very valid one. I hope the coming generations will soon get over the political fiascos, the religious foolishness and the economic disparities and live life. When I see pictures of the stricken in warring countries, it saddens me a lot. in one place, children play without fear and in another part, kids grow in fear seeing bombs burst, people killed and so on.
