A Chat With The Man Behind HAVIN and SteemBux....This Week On Steemit....Steemians Speak- What Next After SteemFest? ….. SteemMag – Steemit’s Weekend Digest #18 p.2
SteemMag:
How has your journey been so far on Steemit?
@williambanks
My Steemit journey has been incredible so far. I started out with a handful of friends & family I brought over from other social media. Now I have hundreds of friends. You'll notice I use friends, not followers. I like trying to know every person I associate with. I'm not the best at that, it's a life goal though to know each person on that list and have regular interaction with them and that's the difference between having follower and having friends.
SM:
What's Havin? What inspired you create it and how has the journey been so far?
@williambanks
Havin is shopping gamified.
I've always been into fantasy and role playing games. I love live action role play.
I cut my teeth as a programmer working for a company that ported games to portable platforms, back when portable meant powered by 12 AA batteries that had a life span of 4 hrs.
I also worked on a company that built server engines for what we now called MMORPGs.
I've always wanted to get back into game development because it's fun for me.
I saw the popularity of Pokemon Go and honestly what made me realize that shopping needed to be turned into a game was when I was at the grocery store. There were people there, Millenials, GenX'rs and even some baby-boomers that were bumping into eachother. The reason they were crashing carts together was that they weren't watching what they were doing. They were too engrossed in their smartphones, with facebook, twitter, snapchat, instagram. The final straw was when an older gal, must've been in her 70s or 80s ran over my toes so she could catch a pokemon!
At that moment I was standing there scanning UPCs with a shopping list app, looking for the best possible price and realized that what I was doing was a lot like a treasure hunt. But the app I was using was strictly business and kind of boring.
That night I went home and started planning for Havin. The first shopping list, video game. I know it sounds kind of eclectic and it is, but most importantly it makes shopping less of a chore, in fact it makes it a lot of fun!
SM:
You recently created SteemBux. What stands it out from other steem wallet options so far?
@williambanks
Well I think what really makes it stand out is it's the only wallet for steem dollars that is JUST a wallet. No bells, no whistles. Steembux makes managing money, simple, quick and fun.
I actually created it because I was having problems with the library we were using for the wallet in Havin. I couldn't really tell if the problem was something with Havin, or somewhere else. So I built the wallet standalone as a debug exercise. Then I realized, "well gee this is kinda neat on it's own". And that's the story.
SM:
Do you think there is a market for Steem-based developers and in what way can the community support developers?
@williambanks
I'm not sure there really is a market for steem based developers per se. Developers are an important piece of the puzzle but solid application development requires so much more than just developers.
I'm of the opinion that the community can and should show support for any and all projects that seek to expand the reach of the Steem ecosystem.
SM:
How best in your opinion can we change the current downtrend of Steem?
The best way everyone can help reverse the downtrend is to watch the "Promoted Section", if someone is selling products consider buying one, but at the very least reserve a significant number of your 100% upvotes for promoted content and also drop by and comment, good or bad on content that is promoted.
If advertisers see that advertising on steem is an effective way to reach potential customers, the slide will solve itself and we'll have a hard time figuring out whether we want to buy the yach, the ferrari, or the mansion that day. This is no joke. Your steem are not just a crypto currency. They represent your stake in the world's most revolutionary advertising platform and advertisers are desperately trying to find something new and innovative. Expect them to start a bidding war soon. Just yesterday the price of steem doubled. This was someone investing in order to reach out to you. Make sure you reach back.
The other important thing is to make sure you are bringing over all your friends and family to steemit. By bringing everyone over, you expand the number of eyeballs and increase the reach of the platform.
Finally, make sure to post your content to steemit and then use that share button to share it on all your other social media platforms. This brings you eyeballs, and it brings more attention to the platform. You are far more powerful and well connected than you know. There are less than 6 degrees of separation between you and anyone else on earth. All it would take is one post on steemit going viral, making national news, or just becoming a globally trending topic and the value of steem goes to a dollar and stays there.
SM:
Where do you see Steemit at the end of the year?
@williambanks
I believe we'll see dollar parity again. I've said before that the true price of steem should be around $10 and anyone selling lower than that is being foolish.
Thanks @williambanks for taking the time to have a chat with SteemMag. We look forward to more updates for Havin and even more awesome Steem tools. :)

Hi all,
this is nothing more then a copy-paste of a chat infovore had with me.
He cold-called me in chat, and I was completely confused. Here the chat-log.

BR,
twinner
I've had that also lol
edit: I should clarify I had the Q & A over chat like that not that I didn't know he would use my convo. Just making sure that is clear.
At least you have one new follower now :-)
Thanks will follow back also!
I find that shocking. This is what my second or third time in this mag??
Look, always assume that anything you say can and will end up on the internet somewhere as a quote.
That said @infovore has ALWAYS made it EXPLICITLY clear that this is for steem mag.
Each of our interviews starts like...
Hey Bill you got some time to talk to me for steem mag?
This is the point at which I just assume I am in the interview already. But why worry about it? Your name is out there being highlighted. People are talking about you and they are talking to you.
Just say what you believe. You're not as unique as you think you are. No matter what viewpoint you have, no matter what you believe. Steem is big enough that someone out there feels the same, so just be your real self.
I'm assuming you got me edit there ?
Really? Thats surprising.. I clearly told you you were going to be on SteemMag. (when I asked about a question for Steemians Speak Feature)..Thats what interviews were meant to be..
Im still shocked at your unfriendly comment.. Cos I was nice et al. And you agreed.. Will remove your comment now.. Its saddening though..
I could have made things clearer though. But a simple message from you would have clarified all hitches
Based on the chat log above, I also wouldn´t have expected to find my comments copied to a post without further approval. A sentence like " can I use our comments for a post of mine yes/no ?" upfront would have been quite an obvious thing to expect imo.
It hurts me to see how much dollars you earn for this form of "Journalism".
Ooh.. Icic. Guess thats where the unfriendliness came from.. You really need to read more magazines.. Once again, I shouldnt have reached out to you.. Namaste
But you get some exposure in exchange, don't you? If not enough, maybe could you suggest implementing a reward sharing for steemmag.
@infovore Great article. Might want to mention that the interview was from a week or so ago when the price of steem doubled and we still had a promoted section.
Right now Havin is held up pending the return of the promoted section since that was the #1 selling point to business. Literally the only piece remaining before Havin launches full throttle. The flip side is the removal of promoted posts has given us time for VIVA.
