RE: SteemMonsters is a scam and we need to be talking about this.
I wouldn't say that a "bad one" has been delivered. First of all, it was made pretty clear that there are many adjustments yet to still be made. People were anxious to play more than I can even describe, they put out the version that is currently available, most of us love it. Yes, it could be better, and it will be. I have all the respect in the world for the developers of this game, they have been there asking questions and listening to feedback from the community all along. The biggest reason this game will be successful is because of that, because it gives the players a chance to be a part of how the game is actually developed, which is incredible to me!
When someone just hands me a game and says "Here, play it." I see all kinds of things about it that I wish I could change, but I'm unable to since the game is already made and the developers couldn't care less to hear my opinion about it. Steem Monsters is the complete opposite! If you think there is something about the game that could be better, or needs to be fixed, you can speak your mind and actually be heard! This is beautiful! I don't think you realize just how much potential this game has because of this one simple aspect of it. To be honest, this game could turn into the best game in the world, because it's basically being created by everyone who invested in it.
Many of whom are avid card players, from poker to MTG and beyond, we've got them all in our community. The game has progressed incredibly fast considering the amount of work left up to mostly @yabapmatt and @aggroed and I commend them for the incredible job they have done when it comes to delivering on what they have actually "promised".
Hopefully one day Steem Monsters will change your mind and you will come back with your woes and tell your story about just how wrong you were, and I'll be looking forward to personally welcoming you into our fun and what has been a very family-like community.
One last thing, if there is a way to maybe change the title of this post so it doesn't say scam on it that would be great because I feel like it's pretty harsh considering the amount of work being put into it daily by many people (myself included). Thanks!
Take care!
I was on the band wagon. I did and still do want this game to succeed. I'm not just hating for the sake of being a troll. Games are a great way to expand the block chain and make it accessible to everyone.
The problem is, every game gets feedback and input from people. That's what beta testers are for. I have no problem with putting the game out in a beta testing version. My problem is the aggresive fashion that it has been pushed as an investment. A lot of people lost a lot of money last year because of people screaming, "Blockchain, Crypto, Invest" because of hype with little substance. I don't think these guys are lining their pockets and laughing, but they are playing a very dangerous game with other people's money. There are cards up for sale on the market right now for thousands of dollars. The fact that the developers aren't stopping that is irresponsible and reckless.
I would encourage anyone reading this to show the game to someone who has no stake or opinion on Steem, let them play it, and then ask them if they would pay $1000 for one of the cards.
Again, I'm not just some hater on the internet. I am concerned for people who are putting their hard earned money into this game because they look at it as an investment. People lost a lot of money in the 90's investing in new comic books because old ones were valuable.
Now I see people investing money in this card game because other old ones are valuable. People invested in beanie babies because they were told they were valuable. This worries me greatly because I don't want to see people get hurt. This should not be being sold as an investment.
The game has a limited amount of replay value. People will get burned out and stop playing, then they'll sit back and hold on to their investment cards. With fewer people playing, fewer cards are sold and used. Cards are valuable beause people want them. If they aren't using them, the demand disappears, along with the value. Then people are stuck with thousands of dollars worth of cards that nobody is buying, making them worthless.
Yeah sure, but you can't use comic books to win tournaments with, daily, weekly or monthly. Not to mention pvp comic books? Beanie baby tournaments? I suppose it's possible, but has nothing to do with Steem Monsters.
As for the prices, nobody is asking you to buy their $1,000+ cards right off the bat. Newcomers are steered toward a starter pack and maybe some booster packs.
Steem Monsters is not selling cards for $1,000+.. Individuals are. And that's perfectly fine because it's a commodity much like many others and they have the right to list their hard earned cards on the free-market for whatever price they think is reasonable.
The cards are almost impossible to get in some cases, many people spend thousands of dollars just to get them, why wouldn't they ask thousands of dollars for one? I can tell you one thing for sure, with the plans set for this game, I wouldn't sell any of my gold legendary cards yet. (If I had any, I stupidly sold my only one I somehow got lucky enough to get.) Why would I, if I can use them soon to win tournaments?
It seems really early to be saying some of the things you've said, again, in my opinion. If you don't want to spend a bunch of your money, then don't. But like many other games you will find on Kickstarter, this one is still in the works. Unlike many other games on Kickstarter, these guys have come through.
If they can make this game the way it is and implement the ideas thus far, what's to stop them from making all the necessary changes? Just a little time is all. I know it seems like a long time coming but it's closer than ever.
I think you are looking at a fetus and wondering why it's not a fully functioning adult yet. It's just not possible, give it a month, maybe two, you'll see. There are many plans on the roadmap.
Let the game grow up a little bit, it's a week old. This isn't Magic the Gathering yet but (in my humble opinion) it has the potential to be even better. With your support and constructive criticisms there's a good chance the game could be even better. I'm sure you have some great ideas too, why not share them?
The SteemMonsters Kickstarter raised like 90k. I don't know how much they have made off cards but it is at least triple that. The game looks like they spent $25 developing it. Between the IRS, SEC, and FBi, these guys are most likely going to jail for running a pyramid scheme. Please don't "invest" any more money in this game.
Okie dokie, you have the right to your opinion. Even if it's wrong.
