The OFFICIAL Recount of Steem Park's Opening

Steem Park's First Moments

Morning of – down at the piers of Red Hook, we help finish off the planters just in time to witness the incredible sunrise reflected off of the Statue of Liberty. In the last stretches of cutting, staining, welding, assembling, transporting, planting, mobilizing, and documenting, we finally made out way in a 15-foot U-Haul onto the grounds of Herbert von King Park.

We were met with a spectacular crowd of close friends, family, fellow Steemians, and many members of The Creative Blockchain Meetup group. It was especially awesome that they were there so we would have extra hands... Ours were almost pool noodles by that time. For the duration of the beautiful afternoon, we experienced Steem-powered teamwork at its finest.

Steeming On

Steem Park for us is the first major step in our initial vision to revamp the way we make the world. Back in September of 2016, we sat down at a bar in Midtown Manhattan to hash out how we could make a joint account as @hitheryon and focus on the process of creative making and creative impact. Over a 100 posts later, we finally felt we had the momentum and community support to try out hand at our very first built project using Steem.

This timed well with the growth-projects effort by Steemit Inc. to incentivize new use cases of Steemit. We were thrilled to receive the Steemit team's official support and from that moment, it was off to the races. Dozens of meetings and collaborative efforts later, we find ourselves arriving on site with Herbert von King's first infrastructural update in the last decade.

Many people ask us what the purpose of Steem Park is (mostly those who are not yet familiar with the Steemit platform and community). We always describe it as such -

It is the first public-interest project funded by public interest.

The project is proof that we can channel the powers of the Steemit community for high-impact work. And that's what we'll be focusing on in the months to come. Be sure to stay tuned in for the next big announcement!

Steem on!

The pictures are really awesome, keep steeming

Wow very pretty my friend
Now humans are very ignorant of greenery in urban areas
But they do not know how important green plants are in urban areas,
With this activity of course many interested.
I really like your post @hitheryon

Green spaces are important moments where neighborhoods can breathe and play. They're so critical and sometimes don't get the attention they really deserve. We hope STEEM Park sheds some light onto the importance of public spaces and neighborhood fabric. Thanks @kachful :)

This is so incredibly awesome!!

Well done to all of you!!
