Divan Edebiyatında en fazla şiir yazıp, hakkında en az bilgi olan kişi Zati'dir.

Zati'nin 1471 ile 1546 seneleri arasında yaşadığı düşünülmektedir.

Ziya paşa, Zati'yi Türk Şiirinin temel şairlerinden üçüncüsü olarak nitelemiştir.

Çok miktarda şiir yazmış olması sebebiyle Türk Divanının estetik standartlara ulaşmasında payı büyüktür.

Zati'nin inanılamayacak kadar çok şiiri bulunmaktadır ama tezkirelerde bu sayılar farklı farklı verilmiştir.

Latifi şaire ait 3000 gazel,1000 rubai, kitasi, sehrengiz, Hikayeti Ahmedu Mahmud, lugazgari, Husevi Şirin var derken, Sehi ise gazel sayısının 3000 olduğunu, Aşık Çelebi'yse 1700 civarı gazel ve 400 kaside olduğunu söylemektedir.
