Science at home! Fun homemade experiments for the little ones. Let's continue learning about the Refraction of Light!

Hello friends @steemiteducation, the education of our children is fundamental for us as parents and that is why we always have to look for the best teaching tools that help us transmit knowledge in a practical and fun way. The experiments at home are a very valuable tool that we have to take advantage of, they offer us infinite possibilities that we must use to teach.

Today we will make a super easy and fun experiment that children will love with a coin, we will make magic as if the coin could float, so let's see what it is about.

Before starting the experiment it is necessary that we review a concept with which we will work so that the children understand what we are doing.

What is the refraction of light?

The refraction of light is the change of direction of the light rays that happens after passing these from one medium to another in which the light propagates with different speed. Source

Materials:

  • two glasses
  • Water
  • A coin

Process:

  • We put the coin in the bottom of the cup, attached to the edge.
  • We fill a glass with water.
  • We place ourselves so that we see the coin in the bottom of the cup.
  • We lower our heads a little until we stop seeing the coin.
  • Without moving the head or the cup, pour water into the cup at the opposite end of the coin, slowly and careful not to move the coin.
  • When the water rises, the coin reappears.

What happened?

When the light coming from the coin comes out of the water a change in the direction of the light takes place (phenomenon called refraction of the light). We see the currency "floating" at a height higher than it actually is.

Children love to do experiments. With them, while having fun, they learnand ask questions about the world around them. Among its many benefits, scientific exploration feeds the child's natural curiosity, fosters his interest in science, stimulates reasoning and logic, improves his ability to solve problems, increases his self-esteem and prepares them to understand more complicated scientific concepts in the future. To enjoy science is not necessary to have a laboratory, you will be surprised by the amount of experiments that can be done with some home materials. So do not wait any longer, get to work and have fun with your children or students.I hope that this article has been of your interest and help, and I hope you in my next publication!Regards!!!
