It is spelled Plzeň actually :-) Otherwise you are correct. Unfortunately it is already owned by foreigners. Only remaining Czech owned big brand is Budějovický Budvar (yes, also called Budweiser). Also nice, but very different, more sweet kind of beer. There is so many small breweries and so on, nearly every town has one. And beer is cheap all around :-) Sure our country is worth a visit :-)

You Czechs(?) are surely the master brewers, i didnt have any hangovers or acid reflux i get with most english beer, shame your more famous brews are being taken over by international companies, i guess the micro breweries are the answer. I tried a few in Prague just off Narodni street, great food aswell

So what are beer prices like around the rest of the Czech republic? Are there any nearby cities worth visiting, ive heard Brno is worth a weekend trip, Prague really is getting too crowded for us , too many tourists LOL

Hi, yes, the micro breweries are all around Czech and usually you can try them just in few pubs or so. There is even successful project running small brewery in the standardized container. I saw it with the demonstration and it was really cool :-)
Anyway, myself I am from Brno and it is for sure worth to visit. Most people find it cheaper, more relaxing, not so croudy and they say people are friendlier.
Also Stodolni street in Ostrava is good party place in weekend. It is not what it used to be anymore, but still you can easily spend a weekend there and have fun with locals. Each town offers many opportunities for "day life" also, not just night. For example in Brno they are organizing free walks around with some explanations and history talks.
Both cities are "student cities" so for the best nightlife, I recommend to visit them during school time (schools are off from June - September). Unfortunately weather is not so good during school months.
Depends what are you looking for really...

Thanks didnt know that , loads of pilsner around Prague , i think i sampled quite a good range , i liked the dark malty beers like kozel . If you like beer and havnt been to Prague, you should look at going when they have their beer festival in May. Ive been a few times, they have a good range on display alongside live music and Czech food.
