My Favorite Coin!

Golden. greetings and silver salutations! SSG member @generation.easy is hosting a contest here where he is asking our community what their favorite piece of shiny is.

For me, it is not a particularly valuable or unique piece. As a matter of fact, it is as common as they come. It is a scratched up dirty American Eagle. Here is the coin:

If you have read my posts before, you know I have a variety of world silver bullion coins and you may have seen some pieces you think are cool. I thought of choosing one of those, but settled on this one. Note that I do not particularly like to buy Eagles. There are just too many minted for them to demand the premium that dealers sell them for.

So this post has been a giant contradiction / tease so far, right?!? This is why it is currently my favorite piece, it is my pocket silver (which was previously an 1884 Morgan). It is also the coin I bought on the anniversary of my fathers passing.

My dad loved silver (yet actually did not stack much), but he loved Eagles. We never agreed on Eagles, but we agreed on silver. He was a constant influence to stack. By carrying that silly coin, it is like carrying a piece of our relationship and a reminder of his advice.

Also, that coin allows me to continue his influence. I show it to friends and encourage them to add a little bit of silver to their investment portfolio. Though I do believe it should just be a part of what you hold and I would not advise anyone to spend all their fiat on metals (here's the old disclaimer, I'm not a financial adviser so do not take anything I write as financial advice). I just want them to understand it and hold a little bit.

So that is my favorite coin. On the next anniversary of his passing, I'll go back to the shop and buy another, and perhaps replace this one, but until then, this plain ASE wins.
