Kyle Sinckler: England prop has no recollection of rugby World Cup final defeat

Kyle Sinckler says he has no recollection of England's World Cup final defeat after being knocked unconscious early in the match.

Harlequins prop Sinckler collided with team-mate Maro Itoje during a tackle on Makazole Mapimpi in the third minute of South Africa's 32-12 victory.

He walked off the field after regaining consciousness and watched the remainder of the final from the sidelines.

"I didn't really know what was going on," he told the Press Association.

"I can't remember anything really from the final. They said I came back out, but I can't remember that."

Until that point, Sinckler, 26, had enjoyed an outstanding World Cup campaign in which he had scored his first Test try in the quarter-final against Australia.

New Zealand cancel warm-up because of extreme heat in Australia

S2.jpg

New Zealand have cancelled the opening day of their two-day warm-up match against Cricket Victoria because of extreme heat forecast in Australia.

Tuesday and Wednesday brought record average temperatures, reaching 41.9C (107.4F), while bushfires continued to rage in New South Wales.

The heat is expected to rise again on Friday with a peak of 45C in Melbourne.

Coach Gary Stead says New Zealand will spend Friday resting before playing in a one-day match on Sunday.

"The squad will train at the MCG on Saturday morning in much cooler conditions before batting first in a full-day match against the Victoria XI on Sunday," he added.

Daniel Dubois: Anthony Joshua bout no issue for British heavyweight says promoter Frank Warren

S3.jpg

Promoter Frank Warren says he would be confident in matching Daniel Dubois against unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua "today".

Dubois, 22, is viewed as one of Britain's bright heavyweight prospects and is seeking a 14th win against Japan's Kyotaro Fujimoto on Saturday.

The London fighter has sparred Joshua during time with the GB amateur squad.

"If I could make him and Anthony Joshua today, I would make it," said Warren, 67. "I am so confident."

Warren added: "People say 'it's too soon'. I know who I would have my money on."

Pakistan v England: Visitors secure women's Twenty20 series win with 84-run victory

England won the Twenty20 International series against Pakistan with a match to spare as they secured an unassailable 2-0 lead with an 84-run victory.

Opener Amy Jones made 89 off 52 balls including three sixes, while Danni Wyatt added 55 as England finished on 185-5.

Katherine Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone and Mady Villiers took two wickets each as Pakistan were restricted to 101-9 at Kuala Lumpur's Kinrara Oval.

England won the first match by 29 runs.

Jones and Wyatt put on 120 for the first wicket after the visitors had won the toss, with the latter winning her 100th T20 cap for England.

"There have been a lot of highs and lows along the way but I've enjoyed the journey, and it means a lot to get here," said Wyatt.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Juventus forward defies gravity with jump

S5.jpg

"Ronaldo did something that you see in the NBA, he was up in the air for an hour and a half."

That was Sampdoria manager Claudio Ranieri's assessment of Cristiano Ronaldo's gravity defying leap to score in Juventus' 2-1 win against his side on Wednesday night.

The 34-year-old Portuguese produced a leap of 71cm as he met Alex Sandro's cross at the back post at a height of 8.39ft (2.56m) before heading home - his waist at the height of the defender's head.

It was the sort of skill seen by the likes of LeBron James and James Harden in the NBA.

Speaking after the game Ronaldo, who has scored 12 goals this season, said: "The goal was nice, but I am especially happy to have helped the team to get the three points."

But he later compared the jump to Chicago Bull's legend Michael Jordan, tweeting: "CR7 AIR JORDAN" with an airplane emoji.
