Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah Named 2017 CAF African Footballer Of The Year
Mohammed Salah who has dazzled in the English Premier League this season scoring a total of 17 league goals, just 1 behind top scorer Harry Kane who on Thursday was deservedly voted Africa’s best player in 2017 by current coaches and captain from every men’s national team in Africa. The initial 30 nominees were reduced to just three which included fellow teammate Sadio Mane and Borussia Dortmund’s forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Egyptian was able to edge out his other competitors' thanks to the fact that he helped his country Egypt qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, a competition that had eluded them since 1990. He also helped his country to a second place finish at the 2017 CAF African Cup of Nations, losing out to Cameroon who were eventual champions. The 25 year old soccer star is having the best season of his career. Will this translate to even bigger things in 2018? Salah will be playing with his National Team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and his teammates must be thrilled to be playing with him as he is in the middle of his prime against the rest of the world.
Indeed, it was a wonderful year for Mohammed Salah and the award was well deserved. Congratulations to the 2017 African Player of the Year, Mohammed Salah.
