The main event on Friday's card brings a clash of heavyweight titans! A power hitter with the division's best ground and pound will seek to destroy a gazelle like striker who is technically brilliant and fearless...we are in for a banger!

Derek "The Black Beast" Lewis

VS

Shamil 'Abrek' Abdurakhimov

Fighter Profile: Derek "The Black Beast" Lewis

Derrick 'The Black Beast' Lewis is a bad, bad man. He tips the scales at 265 pounds each time out, and in the cage, he fights at a near 300. This true super heavyweight is a ferocious knock out artist with surprisingly good cardio and pace for his size. His relentless punches will not stop as long as his opponent is conscious..and Lewis is the type of fighter that only needs one punch to finish. Gabriel Gonzaga found out that sometimes it is better to stay down when Lewis tags you...because he will not let you survive.

Lewis began his UFC tenure as a sloppy wrestler with the most fearsome ground and pound seen in the cage. He has a powerful double leg, and once he gains sufficient top control you can pretty much count the fight as done. He has evolved into a more technical brawler over the past year and a half, and has shown heart most men haven't. For 10 minutes and two everlasting rounds, Lewis took an absolute beat down to the grind of Viktor Pesta. This was in Lewis' hometown, and in the last few minutes of that fight Lewis showed us the heart of a champion by in fact taking Pesta down and relentlessly beating him until the referee had to step in.

Lewis really is a beast, and he is must-see entertainment every time out. Even Derrick's UFC losses are wars and have ended spectacularly. Lewis is evolving quickly and is coming into his own style, expect a top 5 ranking for him soon.

Fighter Profile: Shamil 'Abrek' Abdurakhimov

Shamil 'Abrek' Abdurakhimov is one of the many Caucasus fighters who represents the Dagestani nation, and he carries his Sambo background proudly. Sambo is a unified Russian form of wrestling, striking and cumulative self-designed martial arts which is employed by all fighters in that region. Shamil has an effective one-two punch with high kick combination and is able to keep range very effectively as his wrestling base is very strong.

He dominated a very powerful wrestler in Anthony Hamilton by keeping range with piercing jabs and an excellent right cross. His lightning combinations from just outside the pocket made Anthony completely useless in the grappling department as he couldn't make his way inside after the first 2 minutes. Shamil fought a somewhat upgraded version of Hamilton in his last bout against Walt Harris. 'Big Ticket' Harris arguably won the bout as his landed shots did more damage to Shamil, but 'Abrek' showed of a very clean offensive take down game which swayed judges opinions of the bout. Shamil has a new bag of tricks each time out, and his composure is never compromised...Shamil is a contender to look out for.

The Matchup

The matchup is quite interesting as we do not see many main events starring two middle of the road fighters. The guys are not ranked highly nor are they on a true momentum swing, but both men are streaking and they have both faced formidable competition. These heavies have shown susceptibility to being taken down, but both have had no problem getting to their feet quickly no matter the opponent.

This will most likely come down to the throwing of hands and pugilistic impulse as both fighters have not utilized the clinch very much at all in their UFC tenure. Lewis has arguably faced and beaten better competition in top 15 staple Roy Nelson, but Shamil is a master of keeping range and Derrick has had problems with guys who do not bring the fight to him. Derrick has shown himself to be a very fast starter, and any space Shamil gives will be occupied by Lewis' massive fists. Lewis will be the slightly larger man in terms of reach and weight, but in terms of height and stature, these guys are nearly identical.

This will come down to power vs finesse and attrition vs IQ. This is a five-round fight, and that may favor Shamil if he is able to use his volume and range to nullify Lewis' outlandish power and blitzkrieg. Expect this clash of styles to entertain and provide some wild exchanges...the heavyweights come to play this Friday!

How to Play

  • Vote on the main post to enter the bet (main post rewards will also be added to the Stake Pool).

  • Cast your Vote Bet on ONLY ONE outcome for which you bet on for the win (Multiple comment votes will be automatically disqualified by the script, unvote and revote counts as multiple votes and will be disqualified).

  • After 24 hours, the post and related game comments payout to the pool; remember 25% voters rewards are deducted from the total post payout value first as per Steem curation rules. Voters are rewarded in standard fashion in proportion to their Steem Power holdings.

The Stake Pool:

  • The remaining 75% of the total payout is paid out in 50% Steem Power and 50% in liquid currencies, the latter now varies in payout ratio after the new fork. To make the process less complicated, we have decided to use all paid out SBD to buy Steem in the internal market to create a grand total Steem Stake Pool.

  • 30% of the Stake Pool will be retained, of which 15% will go to the writer/sports presenter of the post, and the 15% balance towards editing, development and advertising.

  • 70% of the Stake Pool will be held until the event/game outcome is determined.

  • Once the winning outcome is determined, we will execute a proprietary developed script that will divide and pay out the Steem rewards equally, using the Power Up method, to Mass Distribute SP to all participants that voted on the main post as the entrance fee as well as voted on the correct comment representing the winning outcome.

  • Only participants with a Reputation of 35 or more will qualify to earn SP rewards, but non-qualifiers can still vote and comment in support of the redistribution initiative.

  • Entry cut-off time is the earlier of the post payout or the start of the event.
