  • Prediction: Germany 1-3 Chile
  • Key Factor: Weak Germany's defense
  • Players to Watch: Julian Draxler and Arturo Vidal

  • Both Teams Won Their First Game

There are a lot of chances that this match will be a repetition before the finals as both Chile and Germany are the favorites to lift the trophy.
Germany, the third best team in the world according to the FIFA's rankings, had some serious problems against Australia in the opening game of the Confederations Cup. Yes, Germany won 3-2, but they did not play like world's champions, at all. Of course, we must remember that players such as Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels, Marco Reus and Mesut Ozil were all left out of the squad because Joachim Low wanted to test his youngsters and rest the veterans. However, the fact is that Germany's defense sucked against Australia.
Youngsters like Kimmich and Rudiger failed to maintain the discipline and allowed the Australians to score two goals in some bizarre situations. With such a terrible defense I cannot see Germany standing a chance against Chile. However, Germany proved that they have plenty of talented young players to lead the offense. I was most impressed with Julian Draxler, the 23-year-old PSG midfielder, who made some bad-ass passes and controlled the pace as a true professional.
Chile also started the competition with some struggles. It took them 81 minutes to score a goal (Arturo Vidal) against Cameroon, and the match ended 2-0 with late clincher from Eduardo Vargas. Of course, the Chilean fans were happy about those important three points, but I bet that not one of them were convinced with Chile's performance. In their defense, Cameroon was playing unexpectedly well, especially at the beginning of the second half. However, the world's NO. 4, 2015 and 2016 South America's champions, could've played much better against a pretty mediocre Cameroon team.
There was one episode late in the first half when Eduardo Vargas scored a goal, but it was denied after VAR (video assistant referee) decided that the goal was scored from an outside. There is lots of talk surrounding VAR technology in the football league lately as it slows down the game, but it also ensures justice. I am only sure of one thing - Frank Lampard is supporting VAR with all his heart (remember his equalizer against Germany in the world cup when the goal was denied by a blind referee).
Anyway, the biggest problem Chile had against Cameroon was converting their chances. Eduardo Vargas, alone, had like five well opportunities to score in the first half, but he always failed. All the other attacking players failed to close on some perfect passes as well. I am sure that Chile won't make those mistakes again and if Germany allows them anywhere close to their goal, the Chileans will score.

What Shall We Expect From This Match?

Germany versus Chile will be an epic match as I can see both of those teams competing for the trophy next year in the World Cup. With Alexis Sanchez on the pitch, Chile becomes one of the best attacking teams in the world. I mean, Eduardo Vargas, Alexis Sanchez, and Arturo Vidal should be the three arguments which end this discussion. Sadly, the defensive line-up is not as great as the offense, and there are no superstars to cement the holes which other players miss. All the back line, except Isla, Medel, and Bravo, play in South America. I personally don't follow South American club's football, so I have too little information about those players, but from what I saw in International football, those defenders are good but not great.
The Same story applies to Germany. I have already written about Low's plan to test his youngsters in this tournament. What does it mean? Well, we don't have much information about this team as they have little to no experience playing together. However, from what I saw, this German team is not quite ready yet to compete against the best teams in the world. I expect all the youngsters to choke when they see Chileans lining up against them. Well, maybe only Julian Draxler has enough experience to keep his calmness against the world's best players. That said, the talent in Germany's team is pretty obvious, and I expect them to win many trophies in upcoming years.
As for this match, I expect to see an attacking football game with lots of chances. Even though the bookies think that it is a 50/50 match, I see Chile as clear favorites to win. Germany has nothing to offer against this mature and experienced Chilean team, and I would be very surprised if Chile fails to win this game.
    Sort:

This is a difficult game to guess. A german team that does not include the full squad of his senior squad. While the chile team is becoming a victory trend, which contains some of the world's best players. I think for this match will be won by chile team

Being from Uruguay I can say I have seen Chile´s football team since I was a kid. They play tough and they can be cheeky at times (same as us), but their weakness I think is lack of teamwork. And Germany, they play as a solid team, sometimes without a lot of super famous players, but a solid team is far better than individualities in my opinion.

My guess is Germany 2 Chile 1
Should be a great game to watch.... lets see what happens :D

Different views are not the problem here. We have different opinions. I support chile for this time 😁

Yup, it is a hard one to guess and I can see both of the teams winning the Cup, but Chile is better as of today. They played well against Cameroon but could not connect with the goal. I expect it to change as long as Vidal and Vargas are on the pitch.

I consider the German team that did not bring the squad like in the World Cup yesterday

I think the prediction of 3-1 to Chile is a bit far-fetched. I expect Chile to win, I think they are a great team, albeit aging team, but the squad have grown up together and achieved many firsts for the country. However, I expect the game to be more of a cagey affair, a low scoring game with a Chile just edging it.

Yeah, International games tend to be low-scoring. However, both teams have serious problems with defense (Cameroon had some good chances against Chile and Australia scored 2 against Germany). I don't see this game ending without at least 2 goals. I still think 3-1 Chile, but might as well be 2-1. We will see. I don't know how but I am convinced that Chile is going to win this one even though those Germany's youngsters know each other well!

My prediction is 2-2. Both teams have a frail defense. Chile has the better attack, but Germany has better midfielder. Besides Germany has Lord Wagner, he will score at least 2 goals :DD

Oh shit, I forgot about Lord Wagner... But still, I believe that Chile should win this one pretty easily. Sadly, I am not betting anymore, but if I were, I would definitely put some money on Chile today.

I always enjoy these write ups! Keep the sports coming!

Thanks, @hanshotfirst! Do you follow the Confederations Cup? If not, this game might be the best time to start as the group stage cannot get anymore exciting.

Whoever wins I hope we can maintain world peace. No terrorism or disorder. Let world peace and global brotherhood be the cup winner this year.

haha, I guess this line is more popular in Miss Universe competitions! But sure, hopefully, Conf Cup will be a peaceful event. So far, Russians are doing an amazing job hosting it.

Will be a very difficult match...Sanchez lead Chile to victory against Argentina in South America twice...he lead Arsenal to win my Chelsea @ d FA cup in England...He may lead Chile to win the German machines...But hey...don't place all your bet on Chile until we hear from The big psychic Russian polar bear!

haha, there is always that one animal who predicts the results (somehow always picks the favorites lol). Sadly, Sanchez is not fit for this tournament, so Chile is having some problems. However, Vidal and Vargas are there to cover for him. I still think that Chile is going to win both this game and the whole competition.

Well...as I said don't put all your bucks on Chile...the German machines are very unpredictable...keep updating us as my fingers are crossed already...thank goodness am following you already.

For all you who will bet on this game. Germany will be playing with reserves (WITHOUT Neuer, Hummels, Höwedes, Jérôme Boateng, Sané, Özil, Kroos, Khedira, Gündogan, Gnabry, Müller, Gómez, Schürrle, Götze and more) soi think this game will be a draw or Chile wins. BUT Germany still has some great reserve players like Mustafi, Can, Goretzka, Wagner, Draxler and company so this full be a a good and close match from the beginning

Yeah, if Germany played its best squad, I would see them as favorites against any other team in the world. However, this time I think Chile will win it.

yep i think the same. but it will probably be an interesting game to watch

Hey, speaking about Germany... I was smoking some really good stankweed and started thinkin...
Why did Hitler have to go and f**k up the toothbrush mustache?

    Awesome. Voted up and Resteemed.

I think this match will depend on who Joachim puts out in defence so I fully agree with you that defensively they need to shape up
