New York won their 12th game of May, and it came at no surprise as they were -166 favorites to come out on top. Meanwhile, Kansas lost their 8th out of their last 10 games. New York ended up winning the series, 2 games to 1. The Yankees are heading to Texas to take on the Rangers in a 3 game stint. KC will be traveling down to St. Louis for a 3 game series, and will be looking to make a U-Turn in terms of their win/loss ratio.

Sonny Gray threw only 92 pitches through 8 innings, earning the win and equalized his record at 3. This is the longest duration Gray has pitched since last year, as he’s finally starting to get comfortable in the rotation. Gray allowed 1 run on 4 hits and struck out a handful of Royal batters. Gray also managed to drop his ERA into the 5 range, from a 6.39 to a 5.48. Overall, this was Gray’s best performance of the 2018 season, and he may only be elevating from here.
Erik Skoglund dropped his second consecutive game, and pushed his ERA back into a place that is hard to get out, at a 6.15. Skoglund is in his second MLB season, and he may be finding himself in a minor-league role soon enough if he continues playing on the path he has forged thus far. Through 5 innings, Skoglund allowed 8 hits, 6 runs, and 2 walks. The only stat playing in his favor was his strikeout total with 3, and that is not even above average in the MLB. He will look for redemption against the Rangers on Friday.

Tyler Austin sent two balls past the walls, specifically in center and left, putting his appellation on four of the 10 RBI’s. On both of the home runs, he drove in Aaron Hicks who finished 2/4 with a triple. Rookie third-baseman Andujar hit his fourth homerun of the season, and first in over 10 games, finishing 3/5, a double short of completing the cycle. Austin Romine gave the Yankees their 10th run in the top of the ninth with a solo blast to left-center. He went into the game with a .289 batting average, and left the game with a .326 batting average.
