The most amazing "medical" animals # 4:The parrots

in #steemstem7 years ago

This is a "doctor" with a very rare diet. It lives in South America and they are voracious consumers of fruits, although there is a small detail: these fruits have lethal doses of alkaline and poisonous tannins. With such a poisonous diet it is logical that the parrot complains because his stomach hurts. But the macaws found the cure is something that abounds in their area. They eat large quantities of clay, an effective antidote against the poisons of the fruits. Smart, right?

The smallest can measure between 8 cm and the largest reaches up to twenty meters also have a variety of colors, as well as being very precious pets.

Its color in the plumage is very variable. but with a predominance of the green color, there are some like the talkative parrot that lives in the zones of Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina, that have like more defined color the tonalities of blues, yellows, and reds. They are from the jungles and tropical forests, where the climate is warm and they form large groups where they select the tree and there they meet, the nests they use are the holes in the trees where another bird nests, usually the holes made by woodpeckers, they also live in the crevices of the rocks, there are some species such as the gray Argentine parrot, which is the so-called monora parrot, which becomes a nest made up of sticks and placed in the treetops, you can see them in the Entre Ríos palm trees. Many of the parrots breed in pairs, but some have been observed as the gray parrots in Argentina, which make their communal nests. The females are layers of up to five eggs and the chicks are born weak, very underdeveloped, with no plumage, and blind.

One of the characteristics that always attracts the attention of the parrot is that it imitates human speech, this is due to its language, but it does not imitate sounds of nature, it has a quick, round, and fleshy tongue. He uses it for the extraction of seeds and grains, which is one of his most common foods as well as leaves and fruits. The tongues of the parrots, is longer and at the tips have bristles like a brush, they can carry nectar and pollen from the flowers. The parrot is a great talker who imitates but does not know or understand what he says, he has an excellent memory, so when training him, the acts must be repetitive. He knows what sounds to imitate when he wants to say hello when someone arrives or is hungry. But he never knows or understands what he is imitating. The most surprising thing is how it imitates the human voice, that is what makes them popular.

Its reproduction occurs in varying periods depending on the place.

After five years of life, parrots seek to form a couple, being faithful for their entire lives. The couples look for places in trees and palms or even in large termite mounds, where they prepare the nest with gnawed wood for its strong beak. In the reproductive season, the female lays 3 to 4 eggs that are hatched for 28 days by her parents, who also dedicate themselves to the care of their young that lasts until next year.

The young remain in the nest for approximately 2 months. The reproduction period is from September to March. It takes 5 years to reach adulthood.

Threats

It is the most wanted bird as a domestic animal because it is considered an excellent talker, being the capture for trade the main threat of this species.

Unfortunately, the number of birds decreased considerably due to illegal import and export. Other factors are the reduction and destruction of natural habitats. Nowadays, this species is considered a threatened species of extinction according to CITIES (International Convention of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).

Having a wild animal as a pet not only helps to exterminate natural populations, but for an animal that comes alive to the pet market, ten of the same species have died, but it also constitutes a problem of disease dissemination, and it is a cruelty to wild animals that are far from their environment and are forced to live in degrading and quite inappropriate conditions.

A captive wild animal is in an inadequate climate and humidity, in many of the cases they do not receive a suitable diet, they can not give free rein to their institutes, they can not reproduce and they develop behavioral psychic problems.

Recommendation:
Do not buy, and do your best not to have wild animals as pets, many people like animals but do not condemn them to a prison for life. Wild animals have the right to remain in their environment, which is the only place where they can live calm and happy. If you already have one, do your best to keep it well, as cleaning, food, special care, and above all much love because they deserve it.
