Electricity from sound
One time, there was a feast in our locality. A disco mobile from a radio station brought some huge and loud speakers. Since my home was near to the disco area, I was not able to sleep due to the beats of the disco. I was burden by such event since I do have an early work schedule the other day; but, it was not the reason that bothers me the most. It was the vibrating glass window in my room. the glass window was resonating with the music beats. It was astounding and fascinating to watch. I asked myself: "How about make use of the sound to produce electricity?".
___________
I am always fascinated with non-conventional means of generating electricity. One of the idea that I am interested with is the concept of "electricity from sounds".
source
I went to search and dig more about the idea through the internet. I found interesting concepts that I want to share to you.
One of this concept is proposed by Garg et. al, 2015. Their research states that noise or sound energy can be a viable source of electricity by converting this energy using a suitable transducer. The transducer works similar to the principles of speakers and transformers. It The application of the system they proposed is used to convert the sound generated by the car's horn in to electricity.

According to Gupta et. al., 2014, the conversion of sound to electricity was an uncharted territory for researchers; but, It is not impossible. They anchored their proposition to the First Law of Thermodynamics, which states that "energy can be created nor destroy but can be change.".

In addition, Gupta et. al., 2014 cited that we have already working devices that converts electricity from sound. For example, a microphone is a transducer, a device that changes information from one form to another. The microphone synthesizes the sound vibration from our voice to electrical current that can be applied by our electronic amplifiers.
In the research of Gupta et. al., 2014, they mentioned two practical means of converting sound to electricity.
(1) The first method operates according to Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction. They state that it is to be accomplish by placing a very thin layer of diaphragm which will be fluctuated by the pressure created by the sound waves. A conductor is then attached to the diaphragm that is in between the magnetic poles. Electricity is produce once the diaphragm oscillates with in the magnetic poles.

(2) Another means of converting sound to electricity is by using the piezoelectric transducer. It works by converting sound vibration that is applied directly to a crystal (or possibly a ceramic) with strong piezoelectric characteristics. This generate small amount of voltage proportionate to the applied sound vibration.

Giripunje et. al., 2017 cited that piezoelectric transducer could materialize the concept of generating electricity from sound. The proposal of Giripunje et. al., 2017 includes not only sounds but also light to produce electricity. The image shown below is the conceptual layout of the project of Giripunje et. al., 2017.
source
In this project, Giripunje et. al., 2017 specified two input sources which sound and light. This system produces a regulated voltage at the same time charge a Battery. The 12 v battery the required voltage for the microcontroller . This controller drives a relay that used to actuate the switch. Thus, supplying the load. A display feature used to monitor the voltage level is added.
With all the cited researches and project, I do believe on the possibility and viability of generating electricity from sound. It may not be available for use today; but it possess a potential and promise as a viable energy resource of the future.
Thank you for reading this post. I hope you learn something.

great post , it's simple you can produce electicity so easy by moving a Coil next to a magnet that's the main idea. The point is does this worth ....
@raceoff appreciated. I get your point that generating electricity is as simple as moving a coil next to a magnet. Does worth for anything? I may say yes. If the concept was not discovered by faraday along time ago, we wound no lights on our street or rural areas may not have electricity. Does the concept of generating electricity from sound have worth? As for today, it may have less worthiness; but, in the future, it may revolutionize energy generation.
