CONCEPTS INSIDE SHAPES = FUN FACTS!

in #steemstem7 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemians,

Today, I am going to discuss some ideas, concepts, principles or theories that are incorporated into shapes. Yes, shapes like the squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, etc.

I just find them interesting.

1

First of, let's go to ideas within a square.

Punnet Square

This is a very important diagram in Genetics, a field of Biology. This just simply explains why, sometimes, you have a different trait than your siblings.

Example , if your father has hair in your fingers and your mother has none, you might have hair and your other sibling has none. This means that the probability of offspring carrying the gene of the parent is diversified. It also tackles dominant and recessive genes. Some of the common traits like curly hair, dimples, tongue rolling, handedness, hairline and many more manifest in one child and is different from his/her sibling.

2

Look at the example. If red capital B symbolizes big round eyes and small green b symbolizes small eyes, then the probability of a child bearing big round eyes is 25%(BB), 50% combination (2 Bb's) and 25% small eyes. Interesting isn't it?

JOHARI'S WINDOW

If Punnet Square is Genetics, Johari's WIndow is Psychology. Yes, this is a technique or concept created by psychologists to assess inter(with others) and intra(with self) relationships. I personally interpret this as not judging a person by what you see immediately because you are just seeing 2 sides of his/her 4-part window. Why? Check the window.

3

So if I interpret this correctly, your goal as a friend, is to expand the "Open" side and let the other sides shrink. If he/she looks happy but you know there is a problem amidst that, do your best to have him/her share. Now I'm being melodramatic.

FIBONACCI/GOLDEN SPIRAL

4

Let us go the field that is dreaded by many: Mathematics. Here is one beauty or concept that you might not have noticed or maybe, just maybe will awaken you. The spiral is guided by the golden ratio: 1.6180339887. It can also be called the divine proportion or golden number.

How is this significant? There are many proportions that we don't know are guided by the golden ratio.

Examples are the length of your fingers: from the tip of the base to the wrist — is larger than the preceding one by roughly the ratio. Another example is the measurement from the navel to the floor and the top of the head to the navel. There are a lot more examples. Nature has many designs following the golden ratio.

In nature, the Fibonacci spiral is very noticeable. Look at the examples below.

5

If you look closely, even the microscopic realm is not an exception to the Fibonacci spiral. DNA molecules follow it. In a larger scale, galaxies and hurricanes follow it. Petals, seed heads and cones follow the spiral. Am I now piercing your interest?

PASCAL'S TRIANGLE

6

This was a very important concept when I was taking Algebra. Just using this, you won't need to memorize formulas. This is also specially helpful to binomial expansion.

I know there are still a lot of ideas that are incorporated into shapes. This is as far as I know, or I can remember for that matter. Don't get easily bored if you see a scientific or mathematical concept. Find its application and I know it will become interesting.

FEEL FREE TO COMMENT CONCEPTS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO MINE.

Thank you kindly.

Nice one. One of the things I miss is your intellectual mind. keep them coming Ijee. :D

Hahaha. Those were just knowledge from the past and just happened to have a common midpoint. Thus, consolidating them.

Very interesting! I will never look in shapes the same way again after reading this...looking back, remember asking my mom why my finger nails have a french tip and she doesnt. She replied...it's your dad's finger...yeah, i got it from my father. Hahaha. This is a refresher for me...only recall bits and pieces. Now they're back crowing my mind because of you @luigienius. LOL. thank you for sharing! What an extraordinary thinking! Cheers @luigienius.

So your father has dominant genes over French tip finger nails. Nice. Haha. At least the bits and pieces temporarily became whole and not just some scattered jigsaw puzzle pieces.

Nice refresher! This interesting stuff that we study in college. Keep it coming!

Thanks Grazz. I hope to mix fun and learning in my posts always.

Learning stuff is really fun. We're just talking the Johari's Window the other and ended up to be posted here in Steemit. Matalino much!

Brought me back to those mind boggling high school and college classes.
But nevertheless, i'm always interested by how complicated things can be explained in small details. Like Fibonacci spiral , who would have though those spirals have a name. Thanks for giving a stretch on my brain today.

It is my pleasure to tease brains once in a while.

And who would forget "Pythagorean theorem" which is fundamental to inclinations and others. Without this, aeronautics , engineering and other related fields wont be successful nowadays.

Reminds me of my high school days. Thank you for sharing.

Indeed. It is one of the foundations of trigonometry. Good remembering that concept. I post to educate, inspire and advocate. Thanks

is it inappropriate to respond with just a deeeep sigh? HAHA
This looks fun but I'll get back to you after reading it 10 times over ah!
LOL

I'll be expecting that. :)

Not gonna lie bruh, I lost you after Johari’s window. But as always, this is a good read.

I'm sorry to hear that. You may want to try to read again. This time, when you have eaten, maybe it will enhance your thinking capabilities. HAHA..Thanks for the compliment though sis.

because food fuels the brain? haha

very interesting...its educational po...:D

It's interesting! nice sharing! :)

It is good that I tickled your interest.
