Extra Notes on Managing Hypertension Without Medications
Hi Steemians, trust you’re good! Sometimes last week, I wrote an introductory post on “Managing High Blood Pressure Without Medications” and I’m wowed at the amazing feedbacks I got. I am very grateful.
Hypertension is a common medical condition especially in adults. What complicates it is the fact that it is possible to be hypertensive without knowing that one is. So many are in this category and might never get to know until their blood pressure values hit alarming figures.
However, there are other class of people who know they are hypertensive and are on drugs hoping to get the pressure crashed someday, but it doesn’t seem to come.
In my first post, I promised to continue on the steps an hypertensive person can take to reduce the blood pressure without using drugs and this is exactly what we will be looking at today.
If you ask me, one the best means of combatting high blood pressure is lifestyle changes that promotes a healthy living and not really continuous intake of drugs.
Indeed, simple adjustments in the way we live can greatly keep the blood pressure at reasonable levels.
Although, in certain cases, using drugs seems to be the only way out, but for the vast majority of people, simple changes in lifestyle can greatly reduce and even normalize the hypertensive case.
I will quickly run through these modifications in living pattern that can aid in reducing hypertension without boring you with unnecessary details
Losing some weight!
It is truth incontrovertible that losing weight is a viable solution to persistent high blood pressure without taking drugs.
If you can make efforts to lose some 8 to 10 pounds of your present weight, it is unlikely that you’ll continue to record high blood pressures. It is that simple!
There’s a positive correlation between our body mass index and how constricted the vascular bundles are.
Weight loss will substantially reduce the dose of drugs that you need to keep your blood pressure in check. If you can do frequent exercise or through some other means, reduce as much as 10 pounds of your weight, you may be kissing high blood pressure bye.
This is especially interesting as most people are inclined to losing weight naturally. It is just an added advantage that you can reduce the hypertension alongside. That’s great, isn’t it?
Watch your diet!
Another important way to reduce high blood pressure without medications is to keep a watch on what you eat. I mean, carefulness with your daily consumption.
If you’re serious about reducing your blood pressure and you so much detest the idea of taking drugs, then foods like whole grains, fruits and greens should dominate your meals.
If you must take dairy products, then they must be low-fat ones. This isn’t difficult to comply with, is it?
If you are a hypertensive patient looking at reducing your blood pressure without medications, you need to reduce your consumption of foods that contain saturated fat and cholesterol.
Cholesterol accumulates in veins and arteries, narrows the passageway for blood and this leads to high blood pressure.
In order to aid the dietary approach to hypertension, you can pen down all you eat daily. At the close of the week, you’ll have an idea of what your eating pattern looks like and you can adjust it as appropriate. Did I hear you say this is simple? Well, it really is!
Frequent Checks on Your Blood Pressure at Home
While I was just a sophomore at the university, we were taught basic steps on checking blood pressure and I can recollect one of those factors that can give a false value in patients is the “white collar” pressure.
This results when you get to the hospital, and at the sight of the clinician, you’re just scared your blood pressure will be high. Your heart starts beating fast and eventually, you record a high blood pressure.
The simple solution to this is to monitor your blood pressure levels at home by yourself.
These days, there are digitized sphygmomanometers that could be used by patients such that at the comfort of your home to check your blood pressure at regular intervals.
You can record the time and values and give this to a doctor who will check it to determine the best course of action.
Cut down the stress
The challenge of going to work, braving through busy traffic and yet returning home daily as a routine can lead to accumulated stress for you.
While it is true that getting stressed up might be unavoidable for some, the fact is that stress can elevate blood pressure levels. As such, if you are considering a reduction in your high blood pressure without medications, stress reduction is a what you should look at
Here is it! Hormones that our body produces to manage stress narrows the arteries and veins and this in turn elevates the blood pressure
Moreover, stress can cause you to over eat or sleep too much and the cumulative effect of this is an surge in the blood pressure levels. You can relieve the stress by catching enough rest, observing tranquil moments and undergoing frequent exercises.
Stop Smoking
If you’re really concerned about your high blood pressure levels and you’re an active smoker, then you’re simply not helping yourself. It is best you quit smoking because it has a direct effect on the blood pressure levels.
Nothing causes a spike in blood pressure levels like smoking and it’s something you really need to stop.
However, it is calming to know that smoke-induced high blood pressure stops immediately you quit smoking irrespective of your age or when you’ve been smoking. If I may say, nature is rather benevolent here.
High blood pressure is a ravaging health condition that affects most people especially the adults in present times and there are so many drugs that could prescribed to correct the anomaly.
However, I for one, am not well disposed to persistent use of drugs as it has a telling effect on many organs of the body such as kidney that excretes the drug and the liver that metabolizes it.
I am fully persuaded that it is best we manage hypertension using simple lifestyle adjustments.
Dear Steemians, I have copiously reviewed amazing steps you can take to reduce hypertension without necessarily taking drugs and I am confident you will find a calming relieve and of course, reduction in the blood pressure levels if you follow the highlighted steps to the letter.
I hope to hear from you through the feedbacks and comments and I’ll respond promptly. I am truly yours @neurosurgery.
