Milgram's Obedience to Authority doesn't fall far from the obvious truth; A lot of supposedly good people have done stuff they're not exactly proud of, either through authoritative command or associative effects. Knowing how terrible we can get, and learning to embrace reasons why we shouldn't can help keep us in check.
