Friar: Child?

THE FRIAR strokes ANNABELLA’S hair.

Annabella: Oh, father. I feel so sleepy. Ever since the kind doctor gave me that medicine from a shot glass, I haven't been feeling myself lately. But, oh well... I guess things will improve.
Friar: Give it some time, child. These things take awhile before they run their course.

Uncomfortable silence, until ANNABELLA returns to the subject that has been causing both of them grief—her affair with GIOVANNI.

ANNABELLA breaks the silence.

Annabella: Is there no way left for me to redeem my miseries, Father?

THE FRIAR hesitates, gently releases ANNABELLA and stands up.
THE FRIAR shakes her/his head and gives ANNABELLA a pitying expression.

You Will Burn in Hell

FRIAR:
CHILD, THERE'S A SPECIAL PLACE
FOR PEOPLE WHO DO THE DISGRACE

I'M TELLING YOU NOW
YOU'LL BURN IN HELL
THE CLOAKED DAGGERS
SING THEIR SONG

YOU'LL FRY IN THE NIGHT
AND JOIN THE RANKS
OF THE DAMNED
WHO SOLD THEIR SOULS

FOR ETERNITY…

ANNABELLA, YOU DANCE WITH FATE
AND ALL THE WHILE
YOUR SOUL'S AT STAKE

REPENT TO ME NOW
CASTAWAY ALL YOUR SINS

SPEAK TO ME CHILD
YOU'RE IN GOD'S THROES
SAVE YOUR MORTAL SOUL

ANNABELLA
THERE'S ANOTHER WAY
FOR YOU TO CORRECT THIS DAY

YOU CAN MARRY SORANZO
AND HAVE HIS CHILD
SEE THE LIGHT,
GOD'S WAY

THIS ADVICE
I ASSURE YOU WASN'T PAID!

FLORIO looks on at the Friar singing to ANNABELLA.

ANNABELLA,
YOU'VE LOST YOUR WAY
AND THAT'S REALLY
WHAT I WANT TO SAY

THIS INCEST IS REALLY
NOT A JOKE
SO PRAY TO DEAR GOD
AND GET SOME HOPE

THERE’S NOT A LOT OF MONEY
TO RECEIVE YOUR LORD
YOUR FATHER I'M SURE WILL
SPOT YOU WITH THE
COST
COST
COST
COST

ANNABELLA
YOU'VE LOST YOUR WAY
SO TAKE THIS DAY
AND SERVE

YOUR LORD'S WAY!

ANNABELLA looks up at THE FRIAR until the lights dim to black.

The lights go back up.

ANNABELLA sighs.

Annabella: Okay, father. I will.

Long pause.
