Topic: emotional and physical impact of Parkinson's disease

introduction.

I was at the hospital with my friend to see is dad and the man was just laying their, couldn't move all part of his body but his mouth. Never seen anything like it before and i was curious to ask the cause. My friend only told me his dad was affected by a disease called "Parkinson disease".
I actually don't wanna keep asking too much awkward questions, so that's what resulted to this research.

As friendly the name might sound it is the opposite of it. Its a very deadly disease that has no cure.

Definition of Parkinson Disease

A chronic progressive neurological disease chiefly of later life that is linked to decreased dopamine production in the substantia nigra and is marked especially by tremor of resting muscles, rigidity, slowness of movement, impaired balance, and a shuffling gait — called alsoparalysis agitans, Parkinson's,Parkinson's syndrome

Parkinson's disease affects the vital cells in the brain know as "neurons". The neurons are produced to send message to other parts of the body. This neurons produce a chemical called dopamine.
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter. Many different kinds of animals and humansuse it to transmit information. It is used when the brain sends signals to themuscles in the body to make them move. It can make a person feel good

A patient suffering from (PD), their is decreases in amount dopamine the neurons are produced and would result in paralysis. The situation gets worsen over time. The diseases can be depicted by the following symptoms

SYMPTOMS

  • tremor of the hands, arms, legs, jaw and face

  • bradykinesia or slowness of movement

  • rigidity or stiffness of the limbs and trunk
  • postural instabilit or impaired balance and coordination

In (US) over 1million people are affected by this disease.The cause is yet unknown but most victims have an history of the disease in their family. So in conclusion it can be passed down genetically.It is researched, that most relatives of the patient affected increases in 2-5 percent risk and it occurs 50percent in men than women.

Emotional Impact Of Parkinson's Disease

Aside from the physical impact of this disease,you can not take away the fact that the emotional trauma makes a huge impact in the individual life.
Such individual affected gets depressed from so much thinking from feeling sorry for themselves(depression), the pity the get from people around them and change in lifestyle

  • Depression : this is a result of the grieved of being diagnosed by the disease.
    At that point the victim feels very depressed as a result of problems in carrying out regularly activities without the help of another person such as bathing, walking, eating, and other activities that invovle movement. Within the time of this illness, life gets difficult and they tend to give up on everything. At a point they feel depressed cause some friends might not visit often and even if some did, the sympathy also don't work well with them.

  • Stress : stress is an important part of being a human which can be caused by different reason. It is most time related to the eternal environment of our lives. Understanding what cause stress is important. The body needs adrenaline in other to cope with stress one is going through but in the case of (PD) the adrenaline is reduces dues to the fact that the producing fact or cell vessel "Dopamine" is affected.

  • Apathy : apathy can be define as lack of emotions or general lack of interests in doing things. In the case of (PD) it is inevitable during the early stage when it's diagnosed. The victim looses interesting in those things that makes them happy or feel. As much as the victim is affected this behavior would affect the people around them. In a way that it brings a fatigue nature. The family and friends might start to get frustrated while trying to cheer such people up with things they enjoyed.

Medication

Even though (P.D) cant be cured but there are medications to lessen the effects of the disease.

  • Dopamine promoter

Stimulates dopamine receptors in the brain.

  • Antidepressant

Prevents or relieves depression and elevates mood.

  • Cognition-enhancing medication

Improves mental function, lowers blood pressure and may balance mood.

  • Anti-Tremor

Helps control tremor, shaking and unsteadiness. source.

In conclusion

Parkinson's disease might be deadly but there medical remedy to lessen the effect on the patient. More importantly,family and friends around the victim of such disease should be patient and always make sure they stay strong to support.They need all the support the can get to stay positive emotionally.

Just healthy lifestyle is necessary not everything we eat is helping .
