Sticking it to The Man (COM 40)

in #stickman6 years ago (edited)

Give up, just quit, because in this life, you can’t win. Yeah, you can try, but in the end you’re just gonna lose, big time, because the world is run by the Man. The Man, oh, you don’t know the Man. He’s everywhere. In the White House… down the hall… Ms. Mullins, she’s the Man. And the Man ruined the ozone, he’s burning down the Amazon, and he kidnapped Shamu and put her in a chlorine tank! And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock ‘n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV! So don’t waste your time trying to make anything cool or pure or awesome ’cause the Man is just gonna call you a fat washed up loser and crush your soul. So do yourselves a favor and just GIVE UP!

Today there is a way to stick it to the man. It is called stick man. I've been working on sketches every day for a more than a week now. Little by little I will fit these sketches into my posts. As I get more comfortable with posting I will develop some regular characters and even run into a meaningful story with these guys. With these stick man we may still be able to stick it to the man.

I found the best way to post an image for now is to draw the image on paper and just scan the image onto my computer. If I get into it I may buy some drawing software and an electronic sketch pad. I don't think these are necessary until I draw a ton of stuff.

I used to draw up until 8th grade and then when I entered high school I stopped. I find the same thing happening to my oldest son Art John. He drew up to a point and then just stopped. I think he has become educated out of his creativity and drive. I tried telling him and even bribing him to get him to draw again but I gave up and I think this will work.

Instead I bought my own sketch book and just went wild. I was hoping that John would pick up and start following me, but instead his eight year old brother started to follow my drawing. He kind of ruined my sketch book with graffiti and scribbling and some bad words in Korean, but he made it funny. My youngest has a hard time with reading and math but he filled my sketch book with creations. I will share one here:

This kind of collaboration is better left as is. Mostly he writes stuff to make his mom upset. He thinks this is funny. Well I kind of do too. I will give you some help understanding this picture. I was trying to draw a picture of my son drawing a picture of his mom. When my son got a hold of the picture he drew his mom in the background saying something like, "You horrid creature!" Then he answered her saying, "Stop mom. I'm busy." He is eight years old and thinks his mom is "The Man". She is actually pretty cool. He just doesn't like to do homework.

My final word for sticking it to the man is Clean Fuels. Growing up I could only dream of the day that a car fills up like this, but it is happening. I really don't get why people who live in Seoul buy Range Rover Discovery vehicles or other petroleum guzzling polluting SUVs. We each have a choice but the reality is pollution is not gonna get better until we make the right choices. If not then we will all be buying a lot of fine dust masks.

I want to end with an MTV video but I am not. You can find one yourself if you want. Growing up we had no TV so my brother and I would sneak off to his friend's house to watch the Beastie Boys and Twisted Sister in 1984. I don't need to corrupt another generation.

You gotta fight for your right to post here!!

Good news. I am back at my job for another year.
All the contract stuff is finished.
But I don't consider myself working for the Man.
I am here for the entire gig.

Oh and it's getting close to Christmas. I nominate @moderndayhippie and @roundbeargames to post something funny for @comedyopenmic.

Have a great weekend,

Love,

@mineopoly

I love this post! I wish I could do posts like this. And regularly. I also love to draw...but stupid computer games have had me addicted lately. Wasting all my free time (and then some).

I picked up a stack of 60 year old Time magazines. I plan to do a nastalgia series. Hmmmm I should go now and get started......

Peace

Take your time brother,

There is something very special about Times Magazine. Look at the cover story. Often it predicts what will happen in the next few months to come. Sometimes they are dead on the mark. Other times totally wrong.

I keet drawing silly stuff every day. Art John is still playing minecraft. I put a time limit on his device using some qustodio app. I usually end up extending his time anyway but not on Saturday. I want to make sure they are bored on Saturday then they can do something creative.

I think posting here twice a week is fine but I would like to post three times a week... just no time :-)

Yeah, I think all the obviously interesting ones were bought already. I got one on basket handbags........!?!

But the ads and I saw some internal articles that were pretty interesting!

We use Circle to limit the boys computer time. But you can play minecraft offline....so it is a continuous process.

Thanks!
Peace

Howdy sir mineopoly! I'm glad to hear that you are set for another year of teaching right? A tough job but someone has to do it! I think in a few years a huge percentage of vehicles will be electric and the pollution will be greatly reduced. it looks like things are heading that way, is there pollution over there?

You're right @janton,

I do have a contract with The Man for another year, but it keeps me fed and the elementary kids here need someone like me. The technology is becoming more feasible than ever and improving. I will be glad to see all the cars in China to go electric as well. The pollution in Seoul is serious at times but mostly bearable.

howdy again sir mineopoly! well it seems like China would be a country that demanded everyone drive the exact same type of car so I wouldn't be surprised that they go all electric, that would have to help. The kids there need someone like you because of what? I mean what do you bring to them that they need? I'm not questioning you, I totally believe it. I just don't know what it is.

i can't think of anything funny but i'll post something tomorrow. sometimes people find things funny when i don't even try to be. ㅇ_ㅇ

but anyways you probably already know that koreans are obsessed with car brands to impress people they hate. i guess it's the same story everywhere but koreans probably have the strongest desire to show that they're living the life.

another reason i think is that it's just too difficult to charge electric cars. i drove around in one when i was in jeju and it was the most heavily funded place in korea for electric cars. i loved that it had almost zero noise and was smooth as fuck. but man recharging was just too much pain in the ass!

A think a picture of you with your feet up on the table making a shit post is pretty funny. Also your little character fighting giants and flipping them over his shoulders is hilarious.

I never thought Koreans buy brand names to impress people they hate but it all makes sense now. It's kind of like a vendetta. I just thought of it as showing off what a big shot they have become, but I get it now. Kind of like wounded people who become bullies. Sad story. I have been a little naive.

I think electric cars would be better off for commuting in urban areas, but not for touring a large island. Most people commute less than an hour and they can charge at work and at home. But there is a problem hooking your car up if your house is on the thirteenth floor and your car is in the basement parking lot. The Man doesn't want to allow people to recharge at their convenience so will try to make a profit for himself before charging stations come to the place people can use them. It's not like filling up a tank of gas in five minute.

yes you'd be surprised how far koreans would go to 'save face'. i still get amazed sometimes because just when i think we've hit the limit, someone takes it to the next level :)

if recharging becomes as convenient as driving up to a gas station, i'd buy an electric car for sure. and also max distance per charge is still a major issue.

another barrier is government control. it won't allow any other brands other than hyundai to have the biggest market share. so until hyundai somehow comes up with electric cars that can compete against tesla, we won't see mass adoption in korea. not at least for a long time.

"a picture of you with your feet up on the table making a shit post is pretty funny. Also your little character fighting giants and flipping them over his shoulders is hilarious."

that's good to know 😆 thanks 👍

I showed the workweek comic to my dad and he thought that was pretty funny!

Thanks @em3 for sharing this Post!

@mineopoly it doesn't look like your son is posting anymore. I don't either. Just comment sometimes. But I run out of Resource Credits quickly. I hope John is doing well!!
😋

John is fine and his account shouldn't have any problem to start up again if he ever wants to. He gets injured often playing basketball. Now he just dislocated his shoulder. Maybe if you pray for him he can find it again.

I looked into your account and it looks like you have part of your SP delegated to some other user. That might be what is slowing you down.

Fuck the man! LoL. I can't imagine having to wear a dust mask because of pollution, that would suck!

Im looking forward to seeing more of ur stick man drawings 😉

Thanks for the encouragement. Language problems always help to make the world a more confusing place. I work with a Korean teacher and after class said, "good job^^." Later she asked me, "Did you say to me, "Good dog?" - - - Wow. I really got to be careful what words I choose.

Wearing a mask is the only alternative.
