I don't know what happened with Rotna. || Child Marriage ||

in #story7 years ago (edited)

Rotna left school last year when she was in class two at @SchoolForSDG4 . Her father had died and mother was working as house maid to feed her children. Rotna has a younger brother who work in the market and he is only male person of the family. I was busy and I was unsure. It was my mistake I did not communicate with her family when she left school.

Later, I heard she admitted a govt school. I was happy for that but few days ago I got a news from his neighborhood that her mother planning to give her marriage when she is not more than 14 years old.

Rotna was participating in our fruit program

Her mother took her in village for marriage and they left city forever or for long time. I am still trying to reach them. Few days ago I went to their old slums where they lived in. But I couldn't find them. Her elder sister told the news about the marriage preparation of Rotna to our school teacher.

Here is some articles you will find About Rotna's participation at @SchoolForSDG4

We can't force her family to stop doing this. But we can condemn. We can say sorry Rotna.

Any comment and suggestions will be appreciated highly.

Is this the first time this has happened for a girl at the school, or is it quite common?

It is first time for our school but very common for school going girls. Not only lower income families but also I am witness of some wealthy families makes such decisions sometime. So, if we say her mother took the decision for poverty only, may be it will not be true. Lack of Awareness and Education can be main cause.

I feel sorry for Rotna. Her mother trade her lifetime happiness for own benefit. I can't imagine how will it be to live, stay and build family with a stranger for the rest of her life. God bless her.

I am sorry too and I feel unhappy when see her face in picture.

Her mother made a very bad decision. We should all be aware of child marriage.

It is sure that she made a wrong decision. She is not only a child who are facing this .

Maybe rotna's mother didnt realize how complicated it would be..
How come it seems that she is the only mother who didnt know whats best for her child.. rotna was too young for this..

Perhaps. She even have no idea how to deal with the poverty. May be she don't want to arrange the marriage even when it goes worse. Also, sometimes marriage proposals influence too so I can't be sure what was the main reason for the decision.

Wow that all seems so crazy to me! I feel so sorry for the 14 year old girl.. I wish you good luck, Rotna!

Thanks for your wish. Hope she will get good life.

This is sad, very sad. no matter the situation this shouldn't be an option

Perhaps she felt she had no choice and was in a bad financial situation as a widow. We could try raising money for her family... I can’t imagine she would have wanted to make this decision for her daughter. How can we help?

I could help her family any how if I knew where are they now and what difficulties compelled them to take the decision. We can prevent them by communicating with existing kids family so we can minimize the potential treats of Child marriage. @SchoolForSDG4 arrange monthly family meeting every month. Sometime I invite teachers and people I am connected with. I think such open discussion might help. We often can visit slums to know about them and what difficulties they are facing. So such two things I think should help. isn't it ?

If you constantly regret things you did or didn't do in the past, then you won't be able to move forward. Don't live in the past. Live in the present…and the future!
