The road so far

in #story7 years ago

Welcome and Hello,

My name is Bas, but you can call me Baafster.
I've been a miner for about 4-5 months now and I have learned bits along the road. This will be my journal, I hope I can inspire people, but I also hope that through this journal I too will learn and develop.

My journey started many years ago when DogeCoin was still new. I and a friend mined it together. Well "mined it" I must say, I used a laptop and a bad one at it too. So I didn't come very far, and we stopped mining altogether.

Since then I once or twice looked back, but I always wished I continued my course there.

Many years later I started back. With my old r9 290, it did it's job and got me learning again. About all kinds of things.
Bat files, wallets and even bios editing. I loved it, therefor within a month of starting I already bought my second card, a rx 470, which I of course modded quite fast after arriving. This gave me a nice boost and the card itself wasn't that expensive at around 200 euro's. I started to gain speed and tenacity with it.

This was also the time I started to experiment with exchanges. And Bittrex was my friend. I had some hard times and hiccups too. As my first withdraw to my bank account went horribly wrong. Making me lose around 160 euro's. This was a real bummer for me. Since then I became more cautious with exchanging my coins to fiat.

Then the gpu drought started. I couldn't get any gpu or anything in. So I began thinking about how to upgrade then. I heard about burst a week or two back and thought, well that might be a nice addition. I bought a nice 4tb drive and set it up on my pc. Not long after that however the burst prices dropped hard and the difficulty increased even more. Meaning that that won't be a good long term investment. So I kept the drive for personal use and I continued mining with the two cards.

Slowly building up my portfolio I began searching for a real rig. I felt ready and confident, the second hand market came in real handy too. Snagging up risers, a frame and some other bibs and bobs. A week or two later and I was assembling them all. I bought a asus mining board from a friend who upgraded. Slapped my i5 4570 on there, for even more money saving and started to assemble everything.

I even was able to purchase a new gpu too. This is where the next hurdle began. I needed a new psu to upgrade further. So I went to look what was available, and quite frankly. Nothing was available. Therefor it was back to the second hand market. I eventually found a nice 1200 watt psu from corsair. which was a lot better than my 750 watt bronze power supply which was just handling the three cards.

And lastly today I have officially purchased my fourth gpu. A rx 580 8 gb.

In summary I have had a long, yet short road to where I am today. I have accumulated more and more over the months and I hope that I will be able to help other miners along with my updates from here on. I also hope to learn more myself as well. Thank you all for reading and I will see you in my next update.
