The Old Ones [Part 2]
Ahm, ahm, ho-ho, ho-ho tried the old man hush his dog as he was turning towards us. Who are you looking for? He asked and adjusted his glasses to see us better.
I would like to have a pair of trousers sewn for my son. I said as I was taking a few steps closer to the old man.
Ho-ho! A pair of trousers! Exclaimed the old man lively. Formed his palm to a funnel and placed it close to his ear. Did you just say a pair of trousers?
He put his buttered bread down onto the foot stool and slowly got on his feet.
He managed to take a few steps towards us with his buckled knees. As he paddled and stamped, his thick treads were knocking on the floor.
A pair of trousers for the boy. A pair of trousers for the boy. Repeated over and over.
The sound of the bell certainly winded itself into the whole house, as it was something like an unusual, extraordinary thing.
A little old lady peeked out from the other room, through the glass door with a clean white bonnet on her head, tied under her chin with two laced dangling.
As she turned her head, that white starchy bonnet crackled and swished. Its periphery could almost be felt in the air.
The old man turned as he heard the crackling noise. Nothing, nothing Joanna do not be worried, only this gentlemen here, wants to have a pair of trousers sewn for his little boy. He said complaisantly.
There was something triumphant, something victorious in his voice and what very common at this age, is talkativeness.
Yes, yes Joanna make some measurements Joanna, dammit Joanna you are surprised Joanna.
The old lady was really surprised as she saw her husband at work. He was always on the move. The business kept his legs busy.
Everything is just like so many years ago. Joanna was really surprised and she repeated herself, saying trousers for the little boy, trousers for the little boy. She kept encouraging the old man to move and work faster.
The old man waddled to Leslie like a duck and stroked his head. Leslie timorously dragged on me.
So this is that little boy. Let me see you. You are not that small. How old are you? Asked the old man.
He is thirteen and he is going to have his first long trousers. I answered proudly.
Joanna wagged her head and said. Oh my God the first long trousers. How big, how big. I thought he is going to get married.
Leslie started to smile as he heard Joanna's words.
Nice smile! Nice smile! Repeated Joanna. Then she dropped some tears. She was silent for a little while, than said. Sew a nice pair of trousers for him Frederick. Asked her husband.
