HardFork Fundraising Update: An Epic Photo-Finish (Post 1 of 2)

in #story7 years ago (edited)

From the beginning, cryptocurrency and blockchain have been integral to the plot of the HardFork series. Our vision has been to fund the project in a decentralized way, filling the gaps along the way with private equity.

As we were researching potential sponsors and investors for our film, we discovered one cryptocurrency team that stood out as a logical first choice. This particular coin has a truly decentralized governance system where all vital decisions made in relation to the coin or the blockchain are made by the network...the owners of masternodes themselves.

This cryptocurrency team has also, brilliantly, earmarked ten percent of the coins mined each month to fund third-party projects that improve the marketing, outreach, and/or use of Dash. For the price of five Dash anyone can submit a proposal for access to the Dash proposal process. Proposal owners have until the end of the month to run a campaign to convince the masternodes that their project is worthy of funding.

As we shared in our previous post, we submitted a proposal for HardFork to the DASH community in early December (click here to read it).

We discovered the actual process of submitting a DASH proposal required a few very complicated steps that we weren’t aware of. Matthew Neimerg, our distributed ledger expert, graciously guided us through the submission process during a last-minute three hour video chat the day of our submission.

In the first days after submitting we discovered that we were at a huge disadvantage because the Dash community really didn’t know much about us as a team and our our vision for the HardFork Series.

Immediately, we increased our efforts to engage with the DASH community, educate them about all the ways HardFork would benefit DASH and the cryptocurrency/blockchain sector in general, and learn more about them. We spent the next few weeks learning all we could about DASH, making lots of new friends, and basically campaigning our @$$e$ off.

This meant hours communicating with the community in their Discord channel, answering proposal questions, educating the DASH community about both our project and our amazing team of advisors (some of whom we were signing on as the campaign ramped up), and generally convincing them that we could provide them with a substantial return on their investment.

The HardFork core team and advisors sprung into action, demonstrating their strengths.

Christopher Baker

Christopher Baker, @bakerchristopher, recorded an intro video between industry meetings in Los Angeles.

Naomi Brockwell

Naomi Brockwell, @skycorridors, did an amazing interview on Dash Force News and made two videos of her own with Jason King and Joël Valenzuela, and tweeted repeatedly to her many fans.

Doug Karr

@dougkarr produced an intro video, packaged a half dozen other videos, and answered questions from the Dash community until his fingers bled.

Eric Vance Walton

@ericvancewalton did a fantastic intro video, wrote a bunch of awesome posts/responses, and shared links to all Dash-related posts to his social media followers.

Adil, @the-alien, did a wonderful job conducting preliminary research to help us understand more about the fundraising process. @gilliancrawford did tons of research and set up a social media outreach campaign to boost the visibility of our Dash proposal. Andrew, @andrarchy, added moral support and social media outreach efforts as well.

Matt Niemberg, expertly, the Dash network at ease by reassuring them their technology would be fully understood and accurately represented in the series.

Our team also magnetized some exciting new advisors in December. Matt McKibbon and Jason King were welcomed into the mix and immediately got the Dash community excited about how they can lead culture by sponsoring the series.

Even Cl@rizze, HardFork’s resident robot, donned a Dash logo and did an outspoken video spot that endeared her to the Dash community!

And then things really got crazy...

More about our epic photo-finish in installment two of this post, which will be appear in the next few days!
