Steemit Chain Story

in #story6 years ago

Honestly, I highly doubt this is going to work. But I think it's worth a shot.

This isn't a typical chain story. Many alternate stories can develop, and there's no rule about how long a story block can be, or who can add. Everyone can contribute, and contributors have the freedom to choose which story chain to add to.

To be clear, this is not a contest of any kind. I will try to upvote anyone who contributes, but that's not worth a lot given my current SP. This is entirely for fun, although I would encourage you to upvote writers that contribute meaningfully to the story.

Here's how it works: the story is simply a collection of posts. Each post represents a "block" of the story.

To add to the story:

  1. Choose a root block: Select an existing storyline that you want to extend. If you want to start a new storyline, use this post. You can choose any existing block, even one that has already been built on.
  2. Write your block: Write a sequel to the block you chose in step 1. This can be long or short, but a typical length would be at least 3 paragraphs. No NSFW content, please!
  3. Post your block: Post your block on Steemit. Make sure to include the header (shown below) in your post
  4. Link your block: Once you have published your block, you have to link it to the rest of the story. Return to the post you selected in step #1 and leave a comment, following the comment format below.

Block Headers

To help organize the blocks, please include the following header on each post:

This post is part of an open Steemit chain story. For guidelines on how to contribute, please see this post: (link to rules post).
The previous post can be found here: (link to your root post).

The root post is whatever post you chose to extend. The post you're reading now is the rules post. Replace the content in parentheses with the appropriate links.

Link Comments

Link comments should follow this format:

(A short description of your new story block)
(Link to your post)

Again, replace the words in parentheses with the appropriate content.

Example: Assume that someone has written a beginning for a story that involves a knight. A comment extending the story might look like:

The knight continues his journey and is attacked by a red dragon.

Afterword

If this works, and everyone follows the rules, we will end up with a great collection of chain stories. I'll post again after some time with a collection of some of my favorite completed chains.

If it doesn't work, I might see if I can contact someone with more of a Steemit following to help the project along. Happy writing!
