Women With Her Guitar Unstoppable!

in #story7 years ago

This is the story of how I performed in 22 countries and recorded in 3, within the first 4 years of playing the guitar. I’ve traveled all over Argentina, I’m touring the west coast of the US in July and hopefully Colombia in December. I am also recording my second album with producers in Buenos Aires, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

But it didn’t start well. In 2013, in Oslo, I had just started my music career, signed with a label and...I began heavy drug use. My ‘friends’ were criminals, and I witnessed a violent robbery between drug gangs. Hitmen were set on me and my ex. I fled. He went to prison.

Backpack and guitar in hand I played where I could. Los Angeles became home and I found myself living in a celebrity-run new age temple on Venice Beach, even though I didn’t understand their spirituality. But because of my addictions I was asked to leave.

Canada was next; and though I was there to play a festival, I had no money and no phone. I slept on the hotel room floor of an Irish band who fed me. Although my life became increasingly busier, and I was gaining more success, I still wasn’t sober.

Things turned more sinister. I’ve woken up so many times in strange places but when I woke up in a hotel room last August drugged and raped I was forced to confront my addictions. I had to take HIV meds for a month and I saw a therapist. I knew then I didn’t want to hurt myself anymore.

I'm still living in Buenos Aires, and studying photography at a University, but I do feel I’ll move on soon... Sober, happier, more driven.

My music is dedicated to the broken people of this world.

Peace, Annie.
