Mary
The story of Mary is a short one, which describes the life of a naive and desperate woman who ended up making mistakes
In a small town some years ago, an old single lady who was overipe for marriage, lived alone. She was an orphan and was worried about remaining alone forever. Her introverted nature made matters worse as she hardly interacted with anyone, until one day she went to the fields to gather barley.
Having spent several years waiting for a life partner, she met lazy Jin who was out admiring the fields. They both got engaged to be married. While Mary was excited with relief, members of the society felt sad for her because they knew Jin was not going to change.
Mary who had only one surviving relative, sent word to him that she had finally found a husband. Her uncle James however didn't bother to show up, he only sent his blessings. Mary was not surprised, the last time she saw him was at her parents burial which was several years back.
Mary paid for Jin's wedding suit as well as for refreshments at the wedding, as Jin had no money and was not ready to work either. Jin's family had disowned him, because of his laziness as well. The wedding ceremony was the talk of the town for days, especially because Mary had to do all, bearing the cost all by herself.

Months came and left, Jin was still always home, waiting for Mary to provide for the family. Mary also didn't seem to care, she was happy to have a husband. Mary became pregnant after some months, but she had to keep working. Her husband couldn't work and if she stopped working, they will starve. The stress of the pregnancy was getting to Mary but she still wouldn't rest.
Then the day came, when it was time for the baby to come. Mary was in labour pains and couldn't move, but Jin had learnt nothing about a time like this. All their neighbours coincidentally weren't home.
Jin was confused and was too lazy to go the extra mile to get help. He kept wailing and pacing until Mary lost a lot of blood. By the time one of the neighbours got back, Mary had given birth, but to a stillbirth...
Jin was too heartbroken and ashamed to face anyone...he dissappeared and was never seen again.
moral of the story:
- Do not rush into marriage
- Never grow desperate
- Avoid laziness like a plague
It's a short story but the messages were clear. 👍
