When Karma is on your side.
A few days ago my grandmother told me this story about some close friend of hers that stays in a retirement home. This is a true story and happened just last month not too far away from where I live in South Africa.
So lets be honest most pensioners in the world now days aren't very well off financially, and most pensioners enjoy the pass time of gambling, and no this isn't a story about a person who won a large sum of money.
I'm going to refer to the man as John and his wife as Jane as I do not believe sharing their identities is a good idea.
Jane and John and roughly 6 more people who stayed in their retirement home had planed to go gambling on a Tuesday morning and became very excited about this as outings weren't a very common occurrence in retirement homes.
Tuesday morning comes around, Jane and John hopped in their van and drove in a convoy to the nearest supermarket where they bought a few sacks for their outing, once this task had been complete and they walked out to the parking lot they noticed that their van had been stolen. Although they were very upset about losing their only form of transport they decided to carry on to the casino after they had reported the van stolen to the police and crammed into an already full car of other pensioners who were joining them on their outing.
After about a further 10 minutes drive they arrived at the casino and drove around the parking lot to find a parking space that was not too far away from the entrance. As they drove, John spotted a van that looked exactly like his and when they got closer to the van he noticed that it had his exact registration number. It was John's van!
After a long argument Jane and John decided to skip their outing and drive the van home after they had reported to the police that the van had been retrieved. As they were driving John noticed that something was off about his car but did not know what it was. He was too afraid to stop and check it out before him and his wife returned home safely so he continued to drive.
By the time he arrived home he realized that it had something to do with the carpeting underneath his feet and checked it out once he had parked the car, he lifted the carpet and found that the thieves had left behind a large sum of money in cash underneath the carpet! John and his wife excitedly ran inside with all of this cash and counted it. The amount that they counted turned out to be 75000 rand! Which is roughly 6000 dollars for all of the american steemians out there.
Jane and John decided not to report the money and used it to aid their pension fund and go on holiday to Cape Town together to visit their family. What would you do if this happened to you? How would you spend the money? or would you report it?
I will report it to the Police immediately because the money is not mine, neither did I kept it there. Two wrongs don't make a right, so I will report and give the money to the Police immediately.
hmm you think so? That is definitely the right thing to do but in all honesty if I wasn't very well off financially and I was living in a retirement home I'd much rather take the money for myself and family than support our corrupt police here in SA.
Also, to look at the situation in a different perspective, the money was likely to be used in supporting the drug community, so it is better that the money is in "Johns" hands rather than a possible drug dealers hands, even though the money wasn't his.
