Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived two children, named Nell and Jack. They were the best of friends and loved playing together in the meadows and forests of the small village they called home.

One day, while out exploring, the children stumbled upon a mysterious old tree. It had large branches that seemed to sway and reach out to them. Intrigued, Nell and Jack stopped to investigate. They noticed the tree was full of brightly coloured fruits, none of which either of them had ever seen before.

Excitedly, the two children decided to pluck some of the fruit to try. But as soon as they did, the tree began to shake and a voice emerged from its branches.

"You should not have stolen my fruits without my permission," it said in a rumbly voice.

Nell and Jack stepped back, scared. "We are sorry," they both said in unison.

"I am the king of the forest," the tree said. "I can forgive your mistake, but in exchange, you must complete three tasks for me."

The children agreed, and the king of the forest instructed them to find a magical egg, a golden leaf and a rare butterfly.

Nell and Jack set off on their quest, traveling to distant lands in search of the mysterious objects. Finally, after many days and many hardships, the two children returned home with the three items.

The king of the forest was pleased. He thanked the two brave children and gave them each a gift. Nell was given an endless supply of the brightly coloured fruit, while Jack was given a magical staff that granted wishes.

The children returned home with a newfound appreciation for their small village and a story they would always remember.
