A vision to reality
I had a project for a friend to finish this weekend just gone, he has been collecting reclaimed materials. He has only spent £20 or so on some treated timber to help me put his vision together.
I had already done his decking some time ago.
The vision.
Luckily one of the joists landed in the middle for my centre post.
Cutting on the angle to suit the wall below the deck.
I removed the first few decking boards and fitted the centre post and two new 80mm posts. These were coach screwed into the sub frame, putting noggins where I needed to. I cut the decking boards to suit and put the metal rail and old sash window in place.
I fitted the hand rails first to avoid any showing fixings, then constructed frames for the stain glass using a 10mm router to groove out the timber for the glass to sit in. One side done.
Then it was a case of mirroring the completed side. Almost beaten by the weather I had managed to get the rails in place before I returned the following day to complete. I had to guide the apple tree through the other sash, it wasn't easy but luckily my friend was on hand.
By lunch time I was finished and a glimpse of sun adorned the completed rail.
I think he will add toppers to the posts and paint strip the windows at some point, I was very happy on how it turned out.
