Experts at the University of Michigan have calculated some food items based on carbon footprint and nutrition. According to one report, eating almonds increases life by 26 minutes. That report also states that eating a peanut butter and jam sandwich can increase a person's lifespan by more than half an hour. But pizza, burgers, bacon shorten a person's life. According to experts, eating pizza can take 10 minutes off a person's life. The study, published in the journal Nature Food, is based on the hope of ensuring a healthy life. The researchers calculated the direct effects of different foods, snacks and drinks in nearly 6,000 cases. According to the study's authors, "every gram of processed meat consumed in America shortens the average person's life by .45 minutes." Thus, 61 grams of processed meat in a hotdog sandwich shortens a person's life by 27 minutes. On the other hand, the high amount of sodium and trans fat present in it is becoming an age of health concern. Even after analyzing the possible benefits due to the polyunsaturated fat and fiber it contains, at final cost hotdogs cut 36 minutes off a person's life.
