Lucknow Student Develops App To Detect Cataract: 17-year-old Ishaan Vasantkumar from Lucknow has developed an AI-based app 'Roshini' which will detect cataract at the very beginning. The app was launched on Saturday during a free eye check-up camp organized by Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit and Study Hall. Ishaan, a Class 12 student of Study Hall School, worked for a year to develop the app in collaboration with the National Health Mission and the India Health Action Trust.

It is user-friendly, accessible to both the public and frontline health workers, which will assist rural communities in early cataract detection. Its goal is to eliminate blindness and vision problems caused by untreated glaucoma. Initially the app will be used in Varanasi, Fatehpur and Hapur.

Ishaan has claimed that currently no such app is available in India. Ishaan says that both my maternal grandparents were suffering from cataract, which inspired me to work in this regard. “Through this app, we want to revolutionize cataract screening in rural India,” said Satya Swaroop, a data scientist at UPTSU. The camp started with a demo of the app and a free screening for the participants.
