The story of Old Stuffs

in #stuffs7 years ago

Our gadgets and stuffs are designed in a way that once the new product is launched, the old one needs to be completely thrown. There is no scope of repair and reuse. For example intel core is a small chip in the computer. When intel processor upgrades, we have to buy whole new computer. Which creates lots of harmful electronic waste.
For details watch vedio of Story of Stuffs.(https://storyofstuff.org/)

I am so much affected by this issue on personal level because in my home we have more number of mobiles phones then number of humans living there. That’s not the world I wish for.

However some small number of people in the world are trying to make things in a way that if one thing is damaged, you can remove that part and plug another upgraded part. That’s it. No need to change the whole product. For details, search Fairphone. (https://www.fairphone.com/en/)

Glad to see that Shikshantar Andolan in Udaipur is doing effort to undo the damage humanity has done to this world. Wish to have more such spaces and revolutions around the world.

A good article, really liked tge though, I'm affected aswell of the same sort of issue. Im working as a it technician and a lot of client would throw the old comouters away. So we collect them and clean them from all the data and give them to an organization that sets up hole networks in countries that don't have the money for it. So the younger ones can lern how to use computer and have access to the web.

Thank you

Glad to hear that you are making good use of old computers. Would love to hear more about the organisation you are talking about. Can you send me their fb page or website? In case if I find someone who wants to give away old computer.

Lots of good wishes to you for this amazing work for kids and mother earth. :)
