The Most Powerful Question for Continuous Success
QUESTIONS ARE POWERFUL
‘The most powerful question for continuous success’ might sounds like a big claim (and it is), but before we look at how a simple question can dramatically empower your life, let’s consider the following statement:
What you focus on becomes your reality
If you are always focusing on all the “bad” things in your life, your life wouldn’t be all sunshine and rainbows, right? I mean just think about someone who is always complaining, do you think they are living a happy life?
So how does this relate to the most powerful question you can ask yourself in life?
Questions direct your focus
SPOTLIGHT OF THE MIND
Questions are like a spotlight in the mind. Where you choose to shine your light will determine the path you take. They can also reveal treasures hidden deep in the darkness of your consciousness, that is, if you know where to focus your spotlight.
If I were to ask you “What’s your happiest memory you can recall?”, you are most likely going to focus on some positive memory you’ve had (i.e. your first kiss, greatest accomplishment etc.) and as a result feel happier recalling it. Similarly, if I were to ask you “What’s the worst memory you can recall?” you are likely to focus on a negative memory that makes you feel worse than having not asked the question.
The point is, questions are extremely powerful ways to direct or redirect your focus to different thoughts, feelings or states.
Let’s elaborate on this further.
Since ‘questions direct your focus’ and ‘what you focus on becomes your reality’, we can deduce a powerful truth in life
The quality of your life (your reality) is determined by the quality of the questions you ask yourself
So in essence, if you ask low quality questions (i.e. “How come it’s so hard”, or “Why am I so bad at this?”) your quality of life isn’t going to be very high, and vice versa.
THE GOLDEN QUESTION
So this leads us to the most powerful question you can ask yourself, or what I’d like to call the ‘Golden question’.
“How can I do this better?”
Underwhelming isn’t it? It’s tempting to underestimate such a simple question, however, simplicity often bring about elegant and powerful solutions.
You can ask this question to every single aspect of your life, that’s the beauty of it, it is a universally empowering question. Whether you are working on a project, planning a holiday, stuck on a bad date, negotiating a contract, making a sandwich, fighting a wild dog… whatever it is, you can ask this golden question.
What I mean by that, is that there are always better ways of doing things, and that by asking this simple question, you force your brain to direct its focus on finding higher quality solutions (in that instance). This is exactly how your brain works. It is designed to be a problem solving machine. It is why we’ve survived as a species for millenniums. We’ve found better ways of doing things, everything from living a cave, to living in mansions – you name it!
EMPOWER YOURSELF
Now the golden question doesn’t exactly have to be “How can I do this better?”, it is just a template that you can modify. Your golden question can be “How can I make this better?”, “What do I need to do now to feel better?”, “What’s the best solution I can think of?” etc. What’s important is that it makes sense for you and empowers you in some way – whether that’s feeling a certain way or finding a better solution.
Once you’ve found your golden question(s) you can apply it to absolutely anything and everything, and ask it to your heart’s content. In fact, the more you ask it, the more empowered you become. You see, your golden question is like a shovel, the more you ask it the deeper you get, and the more buried gold you can find – hence the term golden question.
Ultimately, it is up to you to come up with your own version of the golden question and apply it to your life. I can only give you the treasure map and shovel, however, it is up to you to find the gold.
Try it for yourself and see how your life can transform just by asking this simple yet empowering question. Keep asking it over and over to every single aspect of your life, and start to notice how your quality of life becomes better and better.
Peace~
