SuperBowl Squares - best odds/are they fair?
I'm just going to jump right into this by first saying thanks for taking the time to read my steem article!
Sunday, February 3rd, 2019... New England Patriots vs. St. Louis Rams - kickoff 6:37pm [ATL, GA].
Where will you be? Well - no matter where you are watching it, Superbowl Squares are a huge trend on Superbowl Sunday.
What is a Superbowl Square?
A Superbowl Square is similar to a 50/50 raffle in that you only make money if your numbers are the outcome at the end of each quarter.
You pay a certain fee (typically $10-20) and you are given a square. This squares are normally picked at random - but sometimes you can chose your numbers.
Your number is what the score ends in, so if the final score is 17 Patriots to 10 Rams, then the winner would be whoever had 7 for the Patriots and 0 for the Rams.
They do pay outs at the end of each quarter, so there are multiple chances to win! Typically halftime will be the second largest pot and the final score will be the largest.
Statistically, there is a way to be "better-off," or have higher odds, by selecting certain squares (if you can).
The second best set of numbers you can get are (Home Team listed first) 0,3 - 1,4 - 3,0 - 4,7 - 3,7 .. these numbers have 40 to 1 odds of occurring [3% chance].
The BEST numbers to get are 0,0 and 7,0 - these have 28 to 1 odds (7,0) and 23 to 1 odds (0,0). This averages out to about a 4% chance of winning.
These are the odds, but
Numbers 0-9 are available on both sides, so squares like 9,5 and 8,2 are less likely to happen (mainly because points are normally scored in intervals of 3 or 7).
If you can pick your squares - go for the 0's and the 7's for your best odds of winning!
Personally I have Patriots 8 and Rams 5 - so I have some really garbage numbers, but anything can happen!
I hope you all get suares this Sunday and win- Enjoy the Superbowl!
