RE: Prepper Chat...SHTF...Active Shooter

in #survival7 years ago

Great post!
I've heard of classes specifically geared at active shooter situations, but they're not as well-known as they should be. ALERRT is a great resource here in Texas, but I'm not sure if they run programs for the public. Always being prepared is the key.

I was talking about this the other day, actually. I carry a Glock on me at all times (Texas) and was having a discussion about whether to hide/escape or try to take out the shooter and prevent more deaths.
It came down essentially to my location. If I was close enough and could be 100% confident in my shot (and not risk any bystanders), I should go for a kill shot (which was another thing we discussed: disarm/disable, or kill?). Otherwise, hide/run.
That decision, while absolutely logical, goes against all my instincts, however.
I hope I'm never put in a situation where I have to run to save myself while other people are still at risk.

What are your thoughts on being caught in that situation if you're armed (and trained)?
Thanks for taking the time to make the video!

The laws of the land have created this divide between legally justifiable & morally justified. Sad to say, most will run, a few will fight. I hope I never need to live out the scenario you described. I sure couldn't look at myself in the mirror without always knowing... The true answer is getting these lousy laws changed to ones that effectively deal with terrorist situations without destroying a person & their life for defending others. I think the law should read, kill terrorists first...
Great comment! Thanks

Agreed sir. It is a tough situation to have to dictate. But that is why we must train our minds. 😀

See, it's kind of difficult for me to decide on which stance society should take as a whole. I am absolutely all for killing the aggressor first and then think about the morality of that decision later. But I have military training and more firearms training on top of that.
If all citizens carried guns and had the same attitude, there are going to be many more untrained people out there shooting at will like some kind of wild west shootout that would result in even more civilian casualties.

At the same time, if someone told me I couldn't carry because I'm a civilian... well, first I would carry regardless, but second, that would scare the hell out of me knowing that in an emergency situation, the only option I had was to run or hide.

Like you said, I hope I never have to endure that situation. It must be hell on earth.

PS Holy crap, nice bike!

Me loves my Screamin Eagle!!! Blum Blum Blum Blum!!! Thanks

Hahahaha, I totally just made that sound when I read that. :)

Well my thoughts are to assess the situation. If all goes down near me. I'm going to do my best to take the shooter out completely and prevent casualties. But otherwise it would be to clear the immediate area and head to the exit. Engage along the way if necessary. Thank you for the comment. 😀

Of course! Great topic to bring up!

Thank you again!
