To buy bitcoin at any Swiss railway ticket machine, follow the instructions below.

Firstly, choose your language. English is possible.
Next select “other tickets” or “autres billets” (bottom right)
Next, choose “prepaid” (lower right)
Choose “Crédit for bitcoin” (left hand side)
Hold your QR code for “receive bitcoin” under the ticket machine so it can be scanned. The QR code is part of the bitcoin wallet you downloaded from the AppStore. Open your bitcoin wallet on your phone, and select “receive” or “request” funds. Then the QR code appears. That’s what you show the scanner under the ticket machine.
Select the amount you want to buy, or choose your own amount.
Enter your Swiss mobile phone number.
Now you will receive a 4 digit pin by SMS.
Enter this pin on the ticket machine.
Now insert your money
Ping! Your wallet receives bitcoin.
I commute very irregularly with the SBB (Swiss Railway) but I was very interested a couple of weeks ago to see if people actually use it, so I went to our local train station (not too big but very well frequented) and indeed in an hour of sitting relatively close to the ticket machine i saw two people purchasing Bitcoin.
(I obviously didn't look at the transactions, but it was easy to spot, as they pull out there phone and open bitcoin wallets as exactly described by @swissclive )

I have never heard of such bitcoin purchases before.
It is really easy to have bitcoins in your country.
But I don't know what is wrong with governments as ours keeps warning people about bitcoin and the alts.
Btw, do you get bitcoins at the same price as on exchanges or is it different?
They give you the exchange price but charge around 6.5% commission. However when I bought a few days ago the price seemed better than the exchange I would have used.

that's kinda incredible if you think about it. paying for transportation with bitcoin. with bulgaria doing that tax raid on people who have bitcoin and effectively being able to get themselves out of debt surely other countries are going to realise the potential of crypto sooner or later - food, heating and transportation, it could be the next step towards a kind of crypto basic income.
