Suicide bomber kills 21 in centre of Syrian capital

In 2.07.2017, a suicide car bomber was chased by members of different local security units right before he had blown himself up in eastern Damascus, killing 21 people in the deadliest attack to hit the Syrian capital in a total of months. Syrian state media and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group had stated that security forces obstructed and stopped three car bombers on their way into the city early in the morning. Local television had stated that two of the vehicles were blown up on the outskirts of the city but a third had unfortunately managed to reach the Tahrir Square district, where the driver was surrounded but able to detonate a bomb, which resulted in the killing of the 21 victims.
