What Makes a Good Hashtag? What Makes a Good Hashtag on Steem?

in #tagteam6 years ago

You can write a really good chronicle as your content and face the sad eventuality of having it drowned in a sea of information that is propagated on social media (steem).

But how can your content swim across across board? How can your chronicles stay afloat? Most likely it is by applying the use of a hashtag, many might say. But if probably that turns out true, how then can we choose a good hashtag, to match our created chronicle?

Maybe we could even venture into the creation of possibly our own set of hashtag to advance our content.

With this and many more questions begging for answers, at the eye of the storm @sndbox with her magic wand streams a puzzle into the spectrum, which stems from lots questions spraying around.

What makes a good hashtag

But with question asked, other questions emerge:

  • First off, what is a hashtag?
  • Next off,how do one create a good hashtag?
  • What is the history and origin of hashtag?

Some think they remember, others wish to agree. but many have been swayed away in their thoughts, only pretending to believe they have a good knowledge. But the questions about hashtag still remain.

Going further with a bit more details on this line of direction might expose many to the vulnerability of their knowledge and in the process many might struggle to forgive their ignorance, (this I am just saying, I want to pretend to perceive you already know).

A Hashtag is a metadata (a set of information that gives details and insight about a set of set of data). It organizes content surrounding a particular theme together. It create an environment where an audience discuss and source for relevant information.

Its application was initially and mostly used on twitter and afterwards its application extended across board with almost every social media platform applying its usage with the steem ecosystem also included.

Its mainstream usage was a brain child of Messina’s suggestion in 2007, tweets associated with San Diego forest fires in Southern California came up strong with it application.

But its full blown application went viral on twitter in 2009, when tweets were observed to be flying fast, with the hashtag #flight1549 when a broken plane, landed on the Hudson river.

It was then notice over time that people who needed an update on the subject just searched on the hashtag, this search opened them up to the sea of information that circumvents around the broken plane

With the use of hashtag going mainstream, its application has been massively applied on the steem ecosystem, massively aggregating information circumventing on a particular theme together. With this as the basis, for the birthed question by @sndbox, remains a puzzle to fix.

What makes a good hashtag

With this question spinning in my mind creating a stream that has grown into a flood, birthing a rhythm that has flowed offshore, one can say that, a good hashtag should have the following features:

  • It should be concise and brief (#trumprant)
  • It should precision should be massively relative to the chronicles it assembles (#uschina-war)
  • It should be massive with the emotional impression it leaves in the mind of the intending users, birthing and catching attention in the process (coldwar)
  • The hashtag should in opinion look like a topic; a topic that is buzzing or trending is great in birthing a huge kind of emotional dropping. Lets consider the cold heated war between the America and China a tag might be generated.
  • A good hashtag should be cleverly configured to convey the content of its chronicle

Maybe I might wish to dive into the experience with the information I have received on this subject. Maybe I should attempt creating my own hashtag. If I do, would it meet up with your expectation? Maybe I should bribe my way to heart.

I want to pretend to perceive that, you might contribute a piece of information when it comes to the impending cold war between the US and China with the hashtag #uschina-war, #coldwar and #trumprant if I give a promise on an intended reward.

Most likely you might have a greater knowledge on, What makes a good hashtag?

What should a good hashtag most likely represents? You could even make a big statement, by creating your own hashtag, most likely I might as well use it.

I will be on the other end of the line waiting for your response.

interesting meditation on the theme! i am always amazed by people who can create truly good hashtags. i too participated in sndbox's challenge this week. my tag (i think) fits all of your criteria except it is a bit long #ihaveanxietytoo. alas!

Hi @mountainjewel
hashtag has over time become a huge instrument used on social media
..............and your hashtag is massive......... everyone around has an anxiety
he/she struggles with.... so I see the tag a really good one.

My only problem with hashtags is that it relies on the user to click on it and then sift through the information that they find.

Tags on Steemit are good, but they also won't guarantee that people will find your content.

It can be a challenge, the thing that I personally find to be most effective on Steemit is commenting on people's content as I find it, networking with like-minded people, and simply posting as often as possible.

That's all really, in time you build your following. And people slowly learn to expect to see your content and engage with it.

Hi @mazzle buddy
I really like your view on this one

My only problem with hashtags is that it relies on the user to click on it and then sift through the information that they find.

The idea of hashtags gathers data of this parent together.
but then to get to win the attention of viewers
you need to have a good and attractive topic too

Yes are correct on this...... for me in other not to miss out on who tagged me I used @busy (busy.org) as such I see every tag, every mention of my name, every memo, every........ the list goes on........... on my notification icon

Yes, busy is a good front end. I use DTube and Steempress so can't be bothered using another platform. Plus I spent so long learning the Steemit front end that I can't be bothered with a new one. :P

oh I see ..........
I have seen a lot of buzz about steempress but I am yet to search for a lot more details on it.

Thanks for very interesting and informative article @maxiemoses-eu, especially as there is a lack of knowledge about hashtags among Steemians and many of them don't choose the relevant ones.

I always spend really a lot of time complaining which hashtags are the most relevant and adequate to my content :)

All the best

Thank you @crypto.piotr
Your best wishes have been well received

.......The time invested in the process of vetting your content against the hashtag you intend to decide on......
..... is well deserved as both has to criss-cross a proper intersection for the hashtag to be relevant to your content.

I thinks that is the major problem that gets many people discouraged. You put an effort to birth an idea and you just discover that you were all alone.

Yes my friend and it's very sad because you and me both know how much time and energy anybody invest after any good content.
